Changing who to cheer for due to realignment?
Let's keep this civil if we can. :-) And I think this is ok for this board, but if it needs moved to realignment one, so be it.

Am I the only one who is changing the who you cheer for based on the conference changes that are happening? In the past I'd cheer for CUSA against anyone, CUSA east against west, etc. Now most of that doesn't matter. I'm cheering for the teams leaving CUSA for AAC to lose every matchup they have, even if it may be better for Marshall's championship chances to have the soon to be AAC team win. Even though Marshall is leaving too, and for a better situation in my opinion, I'm still not happy with the 6 leaving for the AAC and don't want them to have success. Petty and silly, but I bet I'm not alone. On the same token, I'm cheering more for ODU and USM that I used to because they are going with us. At the same time, I'm wanting those teams left behind to win as long as they aren't playing Marshall, ODU or USM.

I imagine if I was one being left behind, I'd want all of the defectors to lose, and I'm not sure who I'd cheer for in a FAU versus Marshall type situation. Maybe the proverbial asteroid to hit the stadium? ;-)

So just curious if everyone else is experiencing the same thing this weekend, now that most of the moves are official and acknowledged.

Yes. I am rooting against Marshall, but especially ODU for leaving CUSA and JMU for going to the Sun Belt. I am really rooting against the entire Sun Belt. Now I will root for La. Tech, UTEP, FIU, and New Mexico State, as well as Sam Houston and Jacksonville State. Also for WKU and MTU.

Those of us coming from Indy backgrounds don't typically have that league pride mindset for other teams. This might take some time to adjust to that mindset.

Growing up near Huntington in the wake of the crash in the '70s, Marshall has always had a soft spot in my heart. But the older I get the less I seem to care.

I am rooting for ODU and SoMiss more than normal. That said I’m still having fun watching UTSA this year. No bitterness towards other teams, wish everyone the best.

RE: Changing who to cheer for due to realignment?
My opinion won't follow the theme of this thread, but I'm still pulling for all C-USA teams and will continue to through the 2022-2023 season. Not thrilled about things falling apart, but c'mon, is there ANY of other the other eight (as of two weeks ago) who would have declined an AAC invitation if offered? The answer is no. And I don't hold a grudge against the three leaving for the Sun Belt either. They did what they felt was best for them just like everyone else would do if/when given that choice.

That's why I don't understand the supposed rift between Sun Belt schools and those who left them in 2013-2014. If any of that's true, can anyone in the SBC honestly say they would have turned down a C-USA invite back then? Again, I'm pretty confident the answer is no.

At the end of the day, I think all of these changes will turn out to be lateral moves competitively, but with greater financial rewards long-term for those leaving C-USA. So who can be upset about that?

Ha! Someone has to bring up the rear and you two are the farthest away from us. Plus, I just never cared for your AD or some of the things he has done. The good news is that you will never rank as low as UTSA.

RE: Changing who to cheer for due to realignment?
Respectfully, I’ll say I’m selfish. Only worried about the 3 teams that remain on our regular season schedule. It’d be nice if everybody not currently in AAC(that isn’t us) lost, so they don’t carry momentum with them with the merger is complete.
Clark is a lifer for us and I’m afraid we’ve reached our ceiling with him in charge, with no signs of him making staff changes.

Would like things to remain as easy as they have been or else we will get lost in the shuffle in the AAC.

RE: Changing who to cheer for due to realignment?
...speaking of WKU and MTSU, apparently they're still on hold.

Some of the posts on the thread on the "MAC on hold" over on the realignment board seem to suggest that there is some substance to the report that ESPN has asked WKU & MTSU for a long GOR commitment.

Apparently, they would be paid $2.5 M per year in exchange for signing a GOR that would keep them in the MAC into the mid-2030s, and that's one of the reasons for the holdup.

There's also post stating that there are a couple of northern MAC schools that might accept WKU, but not MTSU, due to the travel distance.

In addition to those factors, another factor may be that WKU and MTSU are continuing to weigh the pros and cons of switching vs. staying in the CUSA. Since they're still officially in the CUSA, it's conceivable that they might be seeking a response by the conference that might swing the pendulum toward remaining, as opposed to leaving. There might be a specific school that WKU/MTSU would like to see the conference add, for example., or perhaps they could persuade CBS/Stadium to spruce up their broadcasting package.

We are both gone, chief-- you are reading some strange tea leaves.

Yes a few of those things "could of" happened in the past but POOR LEADERSHIP did not act. Too late.

Sounds like you're convinced, but there is no confirmation available.

There have been no updates since the MAC meeting.

There has been a discussion on the realignment board discussing the lack of news and what it may mean:

https://csnbbs.com/thread-934475-page-5.html

There have been multiple reports of concerns about the travel distances involving MTSU at some of the northern MAC schools, and at MTSU itself.

Some have suggested that WKU may be more likely to join the MAC than MTSU is, but WKU might be less likely to join if MTSU doesn't.

Doesn't change anything. I care about my school and that's it. With non power 5 I hope the conference we are in does well out of conference. That's still cusa til we leave

Once in the AAC I'll hope those teams do well out of conference too. Won't need to follow other conferences or hope they fail because I'm happy with where we are going and not salty or insecure

It’s caused me to keep up more with SBC games. It’s nice seeing them on real tv. And Coach Hall’s rebuild needs to hurry up as their football is a step above current C-USA.

The feeling is that we will go to the MAC. I believe MTSU is playing hardball on a few issues. The GOR isn’t the main issue. We are going to be the farthest team from the conference and that is a concern. Everyone I’ve talked with seems to indicate we’re leaving. I imagine the entrance fee, GOR length and travel setup is what they are hashing out. The GOR is likely already done, divisions are probably already set and now just focusing on the entrance fee.
