That's 26 straight regular season CUSA wins in a row, dating back to the last loss (Senior Night in 2019 against Western Kentucky, which had a big crowd that included me since it was a VB/MBB doubleheader).

I was there, as well. A 5-set loss in which, if I recall correctly, we had an early 9-6 lead in that 5th set, and ended up losing 16-14. A true heartbreaker.

Conference tournament bracket is set. We are the overall #1 seed (due to RPI, which is ironic since WKU has been in the top 25 all season long). Honestly, I don't see where being the 1 seed or the 2 seed matters much, since Rice and WKU should be on a direct course for the finals. If either don't make it there, it's a massive upset. The tournament is at ODU, so does it matter really who is considered the home team and who is considered the visitors for the championship match?

Agreed. Western Kentucky and Old Dominion are 728 miles apart, so I can't imagine a huge influx of fans from Bowling Green, even those who survived the Bowling Green Massacre.

Home team bats last.

Of course since they changed the rule that makes volleyball more unlike baseball, now you can score in volleyball even when you’re not batting.

Baseball should change that rule, too.

How about:
- Hitting team scores every time they make a run.
- Fielding team scores every time they make an out.
Instantly, the lowest possible game score goes from 1-0 to 28-24. The pundits always say that fans prefer lots of scoring!

How about this one?

-Home team scores one point every time they make an out
-Away team scores on point for every total base and three per run.

At the same time, an entire second game is played at the same time...

-Away team scores one point every time they make an out
-Home team scores on point for every total base and three per run.

This makes the average score of an MLB game in 2021 a very exciting 26.97-25.62. It gives spectators the great value of two games for the price of one, and gives the whole league twice as many data points to seed come playoff time.

This reminds me of the case I saw years and years ago for playing basketball with two balls at once. Fun to imagine.

I like it…

Pulling defensive players from one game to pinch hit in the other one would probably be a thing

We end the regular season #24 in RPI (WKU is #25, which is why we're the #1 seed in the CUSA tourney) and #32 in the AVCA Coaches poll (still receiving just 8 votes).

Consequently, despite the 0-4 record against Top 25 ranked teams, if we can win the first two rounds of the conference tourney and get to the championship game at 18-5, we should be in good position for an at large bid if we lose to WKU for the title. It certainly helps that we've made the NCAA tournament the past 3 years, and have developed a bit of a national reputation.

Beating Texas twice in a row was a game changer for Rice volleyball. Gave great respect to Rice volleyball nationally.
