RE: EMU WBB
Wow! Seven freshmen and FOUR are from the State if Michigan! I love it, Fred to date, has leaned on transfers and has not recruited Michigan High Schools.
That said, I remember having the same feeling with Murph's 2017-18 team when he recruited a rather unremarkable freshman class that of seven frosh, only one Derek Ballard remains.

Coming into his 6th year as head coach Castro has an overall record of 57-87 and a conference record of 29-57. The past two seasons EMU has finished at .500 in conference.

Hint: CMU may not longer be Numero Uno.
I made one years ago nobody used it.
I will...just as soon as a player dunks the ball.

Forgive me. 6th year...30 games under .500? I don't follow WBB but what does a person have to do to get fired around here??

Castro is the WBB equivalent to C.C.
This could be his year.
P.S. for C.C. and Castro, forget the 1st two years.

Once again, I'll mention what I've posted before. Castro faced a daunting task his first year or two.
As I understand it. Verdi shocked everyone by taking the UMass job. Stars Sweeney and Morton transferred after their 'favored' HC candidate, Finley, wasn't selected.
The next season was a total rebuild. Worse than C.C. encountered. Losing your top two scorers to transfer (back then!!) is a kick in the somewhere.
So it took Castro say 3 years to get the program back near .500.
Now it is like EMU FB. Just waiting for that breakout season.
For the life of me, I don't know why posters even 'count' C.C. or Castro's first two years.
Do folks think a new coach can go out recruiting and like MAGIC take a team largely devoid of top notch talent and turn it into a winner in one season or two???
And then after 2016/7 Phillis Webb graduated and the three of the four pillars of Verdi's teams were gone to transfer or graduation.

Steve,
You make a good argument, however, basketball and football are apples and oranges when comparing the time to make them successful. For basketball, if you want to win your conference, you need possibly two superstars, a couple more good players and a roster that has a few more role players sprinkled into the mix. Football on the other hand, requires a lot more talent on a 100 man roster.
From my perspective, Castro is just a so so coach similar to Murphy. Castro has had some talent but he doesn’t know what to do with it. From a macro perspective WBB is not followed very much in the MAC so if fans are indifferent on the sport, just keep what you got unless the coach or team is embarrassing the school. In our case, just keep Castro.

Let's hope we move past .500 this year. Unlike football women's hoops has three different coaches who got us to the postseason.

I find it impossible to ascertain how good WBB recruits are.
The EMU website says '.Rated as a top-125 player in the State of Indiana, according to MaxPreps." I would think we should be recruiting top 25 senior from midwestern states like IN.
I've always that that MBB/WBB recruits from MI (and elsewhere) need to be top 25 of their class.
These classes are not 50 or 100 players deep.
It is very possible that we are really off on our WBB recruiting analysis.
The only way to really know is to subscribe to the Prep Hoops state by state for MBB or WBB. See a list of 1 to N recruits and see how our recruit fares compared to other seniors in her academic class in her state.
I do this all the time with 247sports for EMU FB. I'll take the state of our recruit and see how he ranks in his senior class. Been doing this for Oklahoma, Illinois, etc. I can see where players 'like him' are being recruited.
https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Footba...l&State=IL
Reese (#28) appears to be a plan B B1G recruit and Indestad (#36) a high quality MAC recruit or possibly a plan B B1G recruit.
Those are two high quality MAC recruits. No doubt.

I tend to agree with you. However in past Castro classes it was noted how the recruits were nationally ranked for example by ESPN.

I'm not convinced that those are accurate. I'm never impressed by reading "Miss X was rated top 50 in Michigan by national recruiting analyst Joe Blow."
MI talent isn't that deep. We are not California.
I'd read them and think, "they're not as highly rated as written." I want to see something like Verbal Commits where I can see other offers, etc. Would even be better with visit information (now we're getting serious).
And hasn't EMU WBB really done BETTER with transfers than h.s. recruits?
P.S. to be even fairer. I have a 2nd cousin who is a girls h.s. basketball coach. When I was in Detroit this summer, my first cousin showed me a coaches' card and asked if I knew him. It was Castro's business card.
I am NOT in the business of degrading MI h.s. girls hoops for many reasons. Lol.

Tonight's game @Oklahoma will be on many Bally stations. Doubt Bally Detroit is one, though. It is listed as being on in D.C. on the MASN channel.
If it is on in your area, enjoy.

Bally and Sinclair still are not on DISH and it's 11 million plus subscribers.
