RE: JMU Transition to Sunbelt/FBS/CAA AQs
Regarding “playing for a championship” …. JMU has multiple blue chickens following us on Twitter, guys who may get pro looks. They are looking at other FBS schools also.
For the most part players want to “move up” in competition, not move down just to be in FCS playoffs. JMU is elite at the FCS level, which is why we could draw some of these guys before. But it’s clear we will be even more attractive as an FBS destination.

Could you imagine if our first bowl was the Frisco Bowl?
pretty much a 100% chance this happens for our first Bowl game.
LOL, I’d take it if we get to play ECU again
The primary tie in is with AAC. Just don’t send us there against a dreg CUSA school they added.

CAA just announced Drexel will host the WBB tournament. Somewhere J.B. is beating his chest.

No more DAC for us.

JMU Transition to Sunbelt/FBS/CAA AQs
The Louisiana AD said JMU won’t be joining the SBC in football until 2023. All three CUSA schools will start in 2022.
Queue up the bemoaning that we’re going to still have a predominately FCS schedule next year. I’m wondering if we’re still going to be in CAA football. I doubt it.

Or the Louisiana AD is wrong. Our original target date was 2023 but appears we have now changed that to 2022. May just be confused or stated at an earlier time before the change. IDK.

if that's true, it does not necessarily equate to a predominately FCS or CAA schedule - we can still schedule lots of FBS as an indy, and that includes cooperative scheduling with the SBC (even if we are not officially in the clan)

If this is already determined one way or the other, it would be great if JMU or the DNR would provide the answer.

https://espnlafayette.com/sun-belt-expan...exception/
Quote:“I think you’ll see all (four) schools in all sports, with the exception of James Madison football, to start competing in the Sun Belt next season for the 2022-2023 academic year," Maggard stated.
“The reason James Madison can’t do it (in football yet) is because as they move up from FCS to FBS, there’s a two-year window," said Maggard. "I think they’re trying to get a waiver that would allow them to come on board for the 2023 year."
I wonder if this is just a terminology thing. Scheduling a full Sun Belt schedule, and being a full conference member with championship eligibility, can be two different things.

It could either be the waiver accelerates things by 1 year, skipping the "FCS" year with full FBS status in 2023, or it could also be that he hasn't been tracking those details closely and the conference office is handling it. Hard to say until something more definitive comes out.

Thanks DDD for providing the article with a quote. I took it literally and didn’t try to flip and hope he “misspoke” or got confused in terminology.
At face value, that quote says JMU is not in the SBC in 2022, in football. We’ll just have to wait for a confirmation on if this waiver was approved or not.
As others said in the other thread, the ncaa would want to be fair and have to approve such a waiver request for SHSU and JSU too if they request it. That only further complicates the scenario.

I see the SBC has bowl tie-ins with:
Myrtle Beach
New Orleans
Camellia
Lending Tree
Cure
Boca Raton
Frisco
I see we also have the potential to be in the following bowls:
New Mexico
Potato
How does selection work? Can it be predicted?
I suppose they fill the seven bowls in the first list and only go to the others if there’s a huge amount of bowl eligible teams and a lack of them elsewhere in the country?

Famous Potatoes, I looked to travel to this one next week and the cheapest flight was $1200 and would take too long, and that’s from major hubs Dulles/Reagan/BWI. That’s crazy and makes a trip out there cost prohibitive for the fanbases to get out there.

I doubt anybody will bemoan whatever happens next year, disappointed, but little bitching, it's part the of the process
Really hope the schedule next year is at least half fbs

why put so much into what the LA AD says? everyone else has noted that they are working on the variance, getting 9 FBS games...and that all we need is a 5th at home and we are probably able to skip a transition year - all of that tells me that we'll have barely any FCS games next year

My impression is the LA AD made an off the cuff uninformed comment based on what the standard fbs transition looks like. Some here took it like gospel, when it should have been ignored.
JMU has all but officially said we are doing everything possible to make a full SBC schedule happen next year with a one year transition.
JB in an interview also said he is doing everything in his power to land that 5th home FBS game. He does not want to try to assemble an fcs schedule, that would be even more difficult at this point. No FCS team wants an automatic L.
All indications thus far is an official announcement on JMU fbs schedule will come out sometime in January.
