RE: JMU Transition to Sunbelt/FBS/CAA AQs
There is a slim possibility that if not enough teams are eligible to go to bowls in 2023 we would be allowed in. Almost happened for ODU.

Yep, unless there's some kind of chance that 2021 gets classified as transition year one. Seems like we'd be specifically hearing that if that's what JMU/SBC were pushing for but I guess we'll see.

Well, then we would lose 2021 FCS champ chances Id think, and.we got this.

If anything, maybe 2023 could become "borh"

Longhorn has gone quiet again...which means he already knows the schedule !

The bolded statement does not apply this year as all full scholly FCS teams have more than 63 scholarships this year due to COVID exception.

Things are pointing to having all 14 Sun Belt football teams in next fall, but there's still some things to work out, such as exit fees, making sure Little Rock and UTA find a conference and completely re-arraigning a schedule.

App and Marshall were scheduled to play in Huntington next fall, so both schools would need an extra OOC game. And both already have an FCS team slated in 2022. Only one FCS team counts toward the six wins needed for FBS bowl eligibility, so schools will want to avoid it.

If you thought FCS scheduling was annoying, FBS scheduling, especially for a new FBS program, can be tough with how far in advance games are slated. App has games already slated in the 2030s.

I know they're not a SBC sponsored sport, but lacrosse just released their schedule and it's a full CAA schedule. I guess the bridge isn't completely burned.

Football might be a different situation based on the transitional move up. All the other sports will remain at the same level even though switching conferences.

That's for this spring though. I would guess any movement wouldn't happen until July 1.

All our teams will have full CAA schedules in Spring 2022. Full SBC schedules should start for all non-football sports in Fall 2022/Spring 2023.

The reason why I pointed that out was the App poster (or maybe another poster) said that they’re trying to get us in SBC games “this year”.

That doesn’t appear to be the case. I’d also assume if JMU did do that and try to flip schedules in the current year, the petty CAA would drop all of our scheduled sports. Since lacrosse has a full CAA schedule… it’s looking like that poster wasn’t correct.

The App poster was talking about our Fall Sports teams playing a Sun Belt schedule in the Fall of 2022 Potomac.

A lot of our posters are getting confused on the seasons in which schedules for the different sports are referenced. Some by accident by simply typing the incorrect year. It would be nice if something could be put out with detail, and address each sport, from our athletic department.

We’re not switching any conference or schedules until after this year’s spring sports. JMU FB is eligible for CAAF autobid. All other sports are not eligible for CAA autobids.

I stand corrected. I must have misread in one of these threads. I'm glad we're not bolting earlier than next fall in any sport. It would just be reckless at this point. I do hope we're as good as gone in all sports by next fall though. F the CAA and this petty BS they're pulling.

Given the CAA yanked tournament play, I would like to see an accelerated path to the SBC, but believe the soonest it is possible is the June '22 timeframe. Hoping Gill and the joining schools can get it done for all sports. Reading elsewhere it seems the only potential hangup is the other schools negotiating their early departure from CUSA and associated exit fees.

They’d probably find a way to send a cellar dwelling SEC team with a bad record than expand the search for a team with a good record. Last season they used COVID as the excuse to do that, sending 3-7 Mississippi State and a few other losing programs to bowls while good G5 programs with winning records stayed home. They originally had 12 teams bowling but a couple games got canceled.07-coffee3

Question - For non football

Do we know for sure whether we will be fully eligible for all Non Football Sunbelt post season tournaments/auto-bids for the 22-23 school year /seasons? That would obviously mean we would play full Sunbelt schedules.

You mean 22-23 seasons?

Yes, we will.

This coming spring season (22), we will sadly still be caa. 03-puke

I’m pretty impressed with the soccer conference they’re putting together in the SunBelt. The competition is going to be stiff!

That's looking to be a multibid power conference, possibly one of the very best in the country.

RE: JMU Transition to Sunbelt/FBS/CAA AQs
I had hoped JMU to be seeded over NDSU to bring them to Harrisonburg in December.

I wonder if the higher ups have approached NDSU about doing a game in Harrisonburg in 2022 or 2023. Seems like a win-win... no more home-and-home argument with them, good matchup that our fan base would enjoy, counts as an FBS win for them if they win, doesn't count as a loss if they lose, potentially a modest pay day for them as the biggest downside to us...

We'll probably retain Weber State and Norfolk State next year at this point so 2023 is probably the more likely opening.
