RE: Cincy 6th in initial CFP ranking
The CA had an article about the 13 members of the committee.

6 P5 ADs
2 P5 Former Players
1 P5 Former Coach
1 P5 Alum (guy from Entergy played at Notre Dame)

Of the remining 3 spots, 2 are G5 ADs and 1 is from a Division II school.

With the P5 having 10 of the 13 spots, the odds are not in Cincy's favor.

RE: Cincy 6th in initial CFP ranking
Checked it

They have

Tulsa
USF
SMU
East Carolina

Win out and they likely play Houston

Adding wins over SMU and Houston should mean something

I agree that Cincy or us etc should have a much higher OOC bar

They would end up with wins over Notre Dame, Indiana, SMU, Houston, UCF. Indiana had a really disappointing year. It is close. No sure they sweep SMU/Houston anyway.

RE: Cincy 6th in initial CFP ranking
As a Memphis fan, I thought I would be biased in favor of the G5 school. But since it's Cincinnati and not Memphis, I see the situation more objectively.

Cincinnati is good but not better than Bama, Ohio State or Georgia. I can see an argument for slotting them in at the 4 spot and giving the little guy a chance, which could still happen. If it does, I expect one of the three schools I mentioned to destroy them.

The more time goes on, the more I think a soccer model would be better suited to give G5 schools an opportunity to compete in a league with the big boys, and to punish the crap P5 schools who don't belong. So, in this case, Cincy would be promoted to a power league and get to play teams like Auburn, Ole Miss, Michigan, Wake, etc. week in and week out. Vandy and Indiana would drop down and play Memphis and UCF and Arizona. Seems to be the best way IMO.

Lol...

Cincys only chance is for Notre Dame to win out and get to 5\6 in the polls.

It is going to be fun if OU loses and Ohio State beats Michigan State and both finish with 1 loss and Alabama beats Georgia in SEC championship game and both finish with 1 loss. I wonder what they are going to do then.

I'm a fan of the chaos model. I want every team in the top 25 to lose three more games.

Not sure what else Cincinnati has to do. It took a 55 yard FG last year for Georgia to beat them by 3. This year they handed Notre Dame their only loss of the year. They seem like they can play with the big boys. There is no chance for them to improve and get the 4 spot. If Alabama wins out and loses to Georgia in the SEC Championship game they would still get in ahead of Cincy.

I’ll be curious to see what happens when/if any of the teams above Cindy lose and Cindy remains undefeated.

I don't disagree with what most of you are saying and it sucks.

But...is Cincy really one of the best 4 teams in the nation? Eh, I don't think so.

The AP writers and the coaches think they are #2 but what do they know.

All of this just makes the case for the expanded playoffs. Lets settle who is the better team on the football field instead of in a Committee meeting. There should never be an undefeated FBS team at the end of the year who didn't get a chance to prove it on the field.

All are welcome to their opinions. I just don't think they are better than Georgia, Alabama, Michigan State, Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, or Oklahoma.

I think 6th is about right. One could make an argument for as low as 8th or 9th. Give all of those teams Cincy's schedule and they are all likely undefeated.

Yeah don't think they can sell a 2 loss Alabama getting in ahead of Cinci...

But look at Alabamas OOC schedule...No Road games...Toughest game Miami

Memphis could go undefeated against that OOC schedule. Our OOC was actually much harder.

RE: Cincy 6th in initial CFP ranking
Lots of football left to be played.

Cincinnati is by no means out of it yet. But their road to the playoffs isn't the easiest (see Oregon below). They play SMU & likely Houston in the AAC title game. Houston will be ranked by then, unless they "coog-it" down the stretch.

Oklahoma still has games @ Baylor & @ Ok St, and then likely against one of these 2 again in the B12 championship game.

Michigan State plays @ Ohio St & has Penn State at home.
Ohio State still has to play both Michigan State & @ Michigan.
Michigan has Ohio State at home, and goes to Penn St.
Whoever comes out of these 3 gets the B10 West champ in the B10 title game.

Oregon has the easiest route to the playoffs. None of their remaining opponents are ranked. Oregon's Pac 10 title game will be against unranked opponent, since no other P10 teams are likely to be ranked. All other P10 teams have 3 or more losses.

My prediction is that Oregon & Cincinnati win out. Oklahoma loses once. Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC title game, and none of the Big 10 teams win out.
Playoffs: 1. Georgia, 2. Oregon, 3. Cincinnati, 4. Big 10 champ.

I'm with you. If Cincinnati played, oh I don't know, Tennessee's schedule they'd have 2-3 losses right now.

The argument against Cincinnati is all they really had to do was win one tough game: @ Notre Dame. Rest of the schedule is straight up dog poo. Even Indiana is a crap win. Look what Ohio State did to them.

For you hold-outs...
Can we FINALLY put to rest the narrative, hope, and dream that a G5 program will EVER make a 4-team CFP?
Unlike others, I LOVE to say I told you so.

They will take their cue this week. Look for Cincy to start getting leapfrogged in all polls.
