I kid...great coach but two rounds of scandals (that we know of ) is enough

Scott Frost will probably be in the job market this off season. He did win a “national championship” while at UCF.

We're talking salary ranges and current coaches in the SB, and how Cig fits. It's a fact he has never been at that level as a HC so it's fair to discuss. Not like he majority of good FCS coaches have parlayed that into FBS success, but Cig should absolutely be given the chance. I'd love to see him bring in a costly ringer at recruiting.

There have been and will continue to be those that believe Cig should not transition us to FBS. Not calling anyone out on these boards(although I'm positive they are here as well), but there are some on other social media accounts that are very outspoken about how we should switch coaches sooner rather than later. Oddly enough, they give a lot of praise to Mike Houston to this day.

Who are these posters? Or are you just making stuff up? I'm not seen people who have said we should switch coaches sooner than later...... Can you show us some examples on here?

Really don't care if you believe me or not. You can do the searches on social media yourself. Even if I disagree with people, not gonna sic the dogs on them for it.

edit: oops

Indeed, and that call should be made at 11AM tomorrow once the state approves of the move up.

Alabama has an opening in 2023 and not many P5 programs do.
They probably pay $1.5 million + and the game would have more national media exposure than JMU has ever had.

Gotta do it. Saban is now 24-1 against his former assistant coaches after losing to Jimbo this year. The ice has been broken!

Scheduling will be tough the 2 next years with most teams already booked.
JMU needs to be on a full court press starting tomorrow signing contracts. Why not start with the best?
We have to fund this move up.
One game against Alabama is 30% of what is needed each year for incremental FBS expense.

More media attention than defeating a ranked VT FB team? More than 2 CGDs? More than the JMU Softball WWS run? :nono:

Playing Alabama would be great. Being beat by Alabama by 40 points? Not so much.

Let’s all agree to stop with the “just glad to be here” mentality. JMU always comes to compete and win. JMU should never be seen as an opponent’s “pushover” or cupcake. JMU is about to take a step (in football) that many fans have been begging to happen. But JMU is not a beggar. Recite the lyrics to the school song.

RE: Cignetti's New Salary/Contract for SB
Maybe we should focus on the task at hand and try to be competitive in the Sun Belt East. My graduate degrees are from UGA, I do not want JMU on the same field as UGA or UA until we've built some depth along the offensive and defensive lines. Even then, staying within 4 TDs would be a win. UGA is making top 25 teams look like Presbyterian. Let's pump the breaks on all that noise. We couldn't afford the injuries that would be incurred in a showdown with either of those. I guarantee Cignetti would currently say the same thing.

Let's focus on building a roster capable of regularly beating the likes of Georgia State and Vanderbilt first. Yes, I know we'd have a chance to beat those teams now, but I'm not convinced we have a roster with the depth necessary to do it week in and week out.

I'm growing concerned some of you all aren't being realistic in the task at hand here, we aren't just strolling into the SB East and running the table in the first couple years. This transition is going to require patience from the fan base.

Saban has scheduled his alma mater (Kent State) numerous times and the payout is always above the going rate. It seems like his way of paying back. Plus while his team coasts to easy Ws in those games he doesn’t go over the top in embarrassing them. So, I’m sure if given the call and the teams are a fit with scheduling, you could count on him.

Oh great, we have another poster afraid of injuries by playing teams perceived to be so much bigger, stronger, faster.
Please show us the data where underdogs suffer more injuries than the favorites.
You can start with JMU who has played as a FCS team in the last decade against WVU, NC State, UNC, Maryland not to mention Va Tech, ECU, SMU who they beat AS A FCS TEAM.

The injury myth is a complete fallacy.

Nobody is saying we are competing with Alabama right off the bat. In fact most agree there are going to be bumps and bruises along the way in the sunbelt. I just posted that we have a connection with arguably the greatest college football program ever and there may be an opportunity to get on their schedule

I'm sure Cig can make it happen. He was part of the original staff that Saban took to Bama, which I believe was 3-9 the year before. Cig was a position coach, I believe, but more importantly he was Saban's Recruiting Coordinator. So, Cig learned from the best. He and Saban know each other well. It could happen!

Nobody thought we could beat VT in Blacksburg and we did it.
Nobody thought a mid major team could make it to the Final Four.

Getting a deal with Bama is said to be one of the easier deals to get done. They have few takers and are one of the last teams to complete their schedule. Towson went down there a few years back and actually showed quite well.

That kid has proven far more durable than I ever expected. He is also faster and a way better passer than I ever expected.

Any one know what we are going to have to increase Cig's
paycheck to be competitive with our new SB mates? Anyone know how this typically goes, do they rip up the old contract and begin anew or is there a way to just increase the pay over the lifetime of the current contract?

Are our DC/OC salaries competitive already or is the assistant pool going to have to grow as well?
Found the answer while going though the Breeze article on the Sub Belt.

The Breeze Wrote:A move to the FBS isn’t a cheap venture, and JMU Athletics has spent years reviewing the financial implications of the move, Bourne said. The move will change various aspects of the athletics department over the coming years, all to follow the Cox Bill — legislation that requires a limit on student fees funding NCAA athletics.

To make the required funding, JMU will begin its financial transition July 1, 2024, for a five-year window ending June 30, 2029. During that time, various sporting budgets will see yearly incremental increases, including ticketing and sponsorships.

First, the Dukes will pay a one-time fee of $1.25 million to the CAA as an exit fee — $1 million for the CAA, and $250,000 for football. The fee is projected to be paid off by the end of the 2022 fiscal year on June 30, 2022.

Ticket sales for football and basketball are projected to increase 8% by June 30, 2023, then an additional 4% annually for club, season and single game tickets. The current ticket price for football’s general admission is $20.

Finally, JMU football head coach Curt Cignetti will see a salary increase of $225,000 over the next three years; the football assistant salary pool will also increase $378,00 over the same timeframe.
