Currently looking to visit the Lone Star State and catch the UMass v. North Texas Basketball game in December being played at the Dickies Arena and I could use some advice on what part of town to stay in. Will be getting in Friday and hoping to have a nice Southern Style dinner then head out for drinks somewhere in an entertainment district or river walk type environment. Would even consider hitting up a few college bars if there is an area like that.
Full day of hoops on Saturday will require some more adult beverages Saturday night as well.
So 1) What part of town (or specific hotels) do you all recommend.
2) What are some must see places to visit, eat at, or have a drink.
Thanks in advance!
Fort Worth is a great Texas town. It's large, but doesn't feel like a large city. And, it isn't pretentious like Dallas. I worked there for 10 years and still really enjoy visiting my old haunts. Here are the places I recommend, and why....
Where to stay
Dickies in near the Museum District, which is nice. You should stay near that area. If you want the full Texas/Western culture experience, and money isn't an issue, The Stockyards Hotel is a historic hotel and close to the arena. It is right in the heart of the Forth Worth Stockyards and would allow you to walk to night life locations. Here is a link to the hotel's website.

Where to eat
Joe T. Garcia's- some of the best Mexican food in the region and it is a historic place to eat. It has been in operation since the 1930's. This restaurant is actually located near between the Stockyard Hotel and Dickies Arena. Good Tex/Mex will make you want to live in Texas. Be sure to check their hours. They are so good, they don't have to stay open all day. Here is a link to their website.

What you must see before while in Fort Worth
Since you will be in the Museum District, you need to visit the Kimbell Museum of Art. It houses an impressive collection of art from around the world. From 4,000 year old Sumerian sculpture to work by the impressionists, can be found at the Kimbell. But, the must see object is the oldest work of art by Michelangelo, and one of the very few located in the western hemisphere. The painting titled, "The Torment of Saint. Anthony" was painted by Michelangelo when he was only about 12 years old. At the time he was an apprentice to the master artist Ghirlandaio. Here is a link to the museum's website.

Those are my suggestions. Hope they help.
