Dude, have you seen your team this year? If he doesn't win right away and you fire him you'll turn into Tennessee.

RE: Georgia Southern may abandon the option altogether
GS abandoning the option was actually a demand ODU made on joining the conference.

Seriously though, I don’t think I’ve seen it run better than the 2011-12 years we played Southern under Monken. Those were two instant classics, spread air raid offense with a mobile QB vs triple option. I’ll never forget that first game in Statesboro, GS methodically moves the ball down the field taking 6-7 minutes off the clock and the crowd goes wild. Heinicke runs a two minute drill and answers and there stunned silent before their friend gets back from the bathroom. Over 100 points and 1000 yards combined. I think we punted once and therefore lost.

Hope the hire works out for you and you’re back on your feet soon. Can’t wait to play again.

This will be a great hire by Ga So.!

Commit to an offense that brings the Eagles into the modern age and compete for the SBC crown.

Plus, Clay's father, Kim, will most certainly be an analyst. And Kim brings extensive knowledge of FB offenses together with player development.

Too bad his brother's team, WKU, is heading to the MAC. Those would be some great matchups.

The biggest thing here isn't what kind of offense you're running or how many transfers you're going to bring in, etc. etc.

He's never been a head coach at the G5 level. How will he handle a seriously reduced budget in comparison to where he was previously. Your head coach is a CEO.

Helton is going to hit the transfer portal hard and the OC he's rumored to be bringing is averaging 40.5 PPG right now.

I think most Southern fans are aware that next year will be a struggle regardless.

And they average less yards per carry than we do on the ground, and we know we're terrible at it this year.

We have a team built to run the ball.....and we're talking about going to one that slings it more than they run it.

This is going to be a rough transition.

He's bringing Harrel with him from SC? He's considered an HC candidate for openings this year. A great addition if you guys get him, but he will be short-term.

Yes Western is averaging 40 points a game. They also got the QB/3 WRs to come with the OC. Not doubting the system, but trying to give a bit more credit to the players in the system for the quick upside on O at WKU. Zappe is really good at it.

Best of luck to Ga So though in the hire. I’m not a huge Helton fan, but his USC run never seemed fair? Like he was always waiting to be fired.

I suspect he won't be working for free. GS will sweeten the pot. But if it is true that he has the opportunity to double dip that leaves more for assistant coaches so he really has an outstanding opportunity to land on his feet with this job.

I like the hire. Benko said we would be hiring a CEO. He found one that ran an organization as big as they get.

I don’t care what kind of offense we run as long as we win. We haven’t ran a true TO since Monken left anyway. Let’s see who he hires and who he can recruit/transfer in. I think we have a QB on the depth chart that could be special if coached.

Benko - go find us some sweet OOC games. No more excuses for people scared of the option.

Looks like GS tried to bring back PJ and he said no.

We tried, let's move on.

Gotcha, thanks. Reading that now. Not sure if it meant as HC, OC, or a consultant, but at least Benko will gets kudos from the TO crowd for at least trying.

Very smart AD.

That’s speculation. PJ did meet with Benko for a meeting but it’s unknown if it was for a job offer or just for advice. PJ is a friend of the program, and it’s no secret that he likes retirement.

This is the part I don't think some of our fans are able to look past the name of a major program on the resume. He has one of the most pass-heavy offenses for several years, his running offenses have been bad, and I'm not sure their recruiting hasn't declined since he took over.

Outside of 2020, his recruiting classes have been phenomenal.
