re. what the divisions will look like: i'd imagine its a work in progress, but 14 is only divisible by 2 & 7.

I would actually be surprised if the two new schools aren’t added to the West and Toledo moved to the East to make a Buffalo and Ohio division and an everyone else division. But I really have no idea what the people making that decision are thinking.

Middle Tennessee was awful last year in basketball, but has historically been pretty good. Western Kentucky has a proud basketball tradition.

At least Marshall hasn't signed up for a third tour of MAC duty.

Eh, been there, done that. What’s the over/under on how long these colleges stay?

I’m going with 4 for Western Ky and 5 for Middle TN. They’ll jump for a conference that is better geographically and oriented towards BB.

Agree. Marshall announced recently that they are leaving Conference USA, joining Western Kentucky and MTNU, for the Sun Belt, leaving Conference USA with only five teams committed long-term, according to news reports. Not only has player transfers ratcheted up in recent years, so has whole teams switching conferences. It's hard to keep track.

I’m hearing this is not yet a done deal. One writer at Yahoo.

Marshall won’t be back in MAC. Academics are not up to par and most schools will not vote them back in.

However good TV markets for the MAC. Louisville and Nashville.

I was joking about Marshall and a third tour of duty. As I said, they are going to the Sun Belt.

Puts Toledo and BG back together as they should be

This would make the conference even more lopsided in basketball. Last year 7 teams were above .500. The whole East, and Toledo. The west has been weaker for a while and UT is generally the best.

Moot point. No divisions in basketball anymore.

Teams no longer play every team in the old divisions twice. For example, the Flashes only play Miami once this season, I think, and UB and Ohio only play once, etc.

MAC was last conference with basketball divisions. Didn’t affect toutrnament seedlings, so all they meant was a championship banner.

The divisions did effect schedule though. I forgot about the fact we dropped divisions. I guess that means there will be years we only play Akron once. That will suck. If we go to 14 teams i wonder if they will come back.

No need for divisions. MAC will keep the rivalry games intact.
