These things are hush hush. I think the carrot here is if C-USA can used Murray State to join as a pair. Missouri State wants Murray State in MVC, but they are being blocked by the privates. Now, there could be 6 votes to 5 against Murray State.

Those schools know the time to move up is now or wait another generation. The AAC, MAC and Sun Belt are full and the MWC won’t invite any FCS schools. C-USA is their only and last choice to make it happen so those schools need to make a decision soon. The expanded CFP and the revenue that will come with it makes the move to FBS attractive.

But he didn't say 30 FCS schools. He said 30 schools, which could be FBS Independents, non-football sponsoring schools or even D2 schools seeking to fast track 1-A status.

Thanks for the correction.

If we remove NMSU and Liberty, only Army, UConn and UMass are left as FBS independents in the G5 and out of those three maybe and that’s a big maybe UMass showed some interest. The rest were either FCS or Div II schools which make it at least 25.

Are you talking full sports here for that "maybe, big maybe UMass showed interest"? Because UMass has definitely reached out for football only, to the point where our AD showed the packet and said "this is for the CUSA and was just updated for this week" (or something similar) during an interview, with the video posted to Twitter.

It sees pretty reasonable that UMass FB-only to CUSA is appealing to UMass, though CUSA has to get to 8 or 9 and covering its FB conference requirements before a FB-only school comes into the frame, and CUSA would likely prefer UConn FB-only.

The sense of "maybe" that I can see is "if FB-only, yes, if all-sports, no".

Since NMSU may be moving as quick as Friday, it sounds like CUSA survives.

I would say in this bunch of 30 schools that a football-only school would likely classify, but Dodd's wording on "getting the 8th" could be related to the NCAA requirement of 8 full members that sponsor the required sports necessary to remain a viable FBS conference in which maybe football onlies and non-footballs may not possibly be what's mentioned here?

Yes. I know.

I was pointing out that UMass has, in fact, reached out to CUSA, and that it was in no way a "big maybe" that it has happened. I never implied that UMass to CUSA was likely to happen.

Oh, New Mexico State has absolutely been contacted. I believe their regents are meeting Friday to possibly discuss NMSU going to CUSA?

Just because you get “30 teams calling” doesn’t mean all of them were serious. Have you ever sold anything online? How many emails or calls does a car dealership get on certain cars? How many are actually serious and are going to show up to buy?

Football only. UMass would be crazy to leave the A-10 for an all sports invite to C-USA.

I mean, yes. But again I was merely pointing out that the "maybe, a big maybe that UMass showed interest" was incorrect, because we have very publicly showed football only interest.

I didn’t know that but thanks for correcting me. It’s hard to keep up with the news when your conference is getting ripped apart every week.

A UTEP-UMass basketball series would be awesome.

I was actually imagining what people around here would think if they saw football games on TV for "UMass vs. UTEP" and "UMass vs. NMSU" and the first thing that popped into my head was mostly:

"Oh man this should be a sweet basketball game! Why are they wearing helmets though?"

It’s been 25 years since those 3 teams have won a game in the NCAAs. Most people would just change the channel to a better game.

I think one of the D2 schools is West Texas A&M. Their ad seems to be tied to the hip of Tarleton State's ad.

Before anybody laugh at me, but I think Central Oklahoma could be another one. The stadium could be expanding to 20,000.

University of Charleston in West Virginia have the stadium, but they would be smaller in FBS with over 2100 students.

West Florida might be an interesting case. They wanted to build a 15,000 stadium on campus,

CSU-Peublo might be an interesting case. They are part of the I25 corrider that would make them part of the Interstate rivalry from Fort Collins/Greely to Boulder to Denver to Colorado Springs to Peublo. From Fort Collins to Pueblo, it is built up with houses, businessess and so forth. As I was a kid, we got tv stations not just from Colorado Springs, but from Denver and Pueblo on rabbit ears.

My relatives who know nothing about college sports still remember those teams from the 90s though and simply revert back to "oh yeah this is good basketball" if they hear about them.

Are you talking full sports here for that "maybe, big maybe UMass showed interest"? Because UMass has definitely reached out for football only, to the point where our AD showed the packet and said "this is for the CUSA and was just updated for this week" (or something similar) during an interview, with the video posted to Twitter.

Just because you get “30 teams calling” doesn’t mean all of them were serious. Have you ever sold anything online? How many emails or calls does a car dealership get on certain cars? How many are actually serious and are going to show up to buy?

That's not really the point here, is it?

Was it that they weren't interested or that they weren't contacted?

New Mexico State have not been contacted yet.

I’d rather be a has been than a never been, right Seattle U fan?

I was talking about when the first Tweet about New Mexico State and Missouri State came out? New Mexico State said they have not been contacted. That is what I am talking about. A lot of schools say that before the actual move or voting. I still say Missouri State will say yes, and join CUSA since they said they want FBS.
