UTEP gets a friend, current reigning FCS champion, perennial FCS powerhouse and Liberty. Good adds if true.

Honestly, this may be as good an outcome as they could hope for given the circumstances. They still need an eighth school but maybe the NCAA can give them some time to get a third FCS school, maybe one that needs a bit more time to be FBS-worthy.

Imagine a month ago or so saying that a lineup that included NMSU and two FCS schools was as good as CUSA could hope for. Life comes at you fast

I’m trying to make sense of why we never added Liberty? I understand they gave us the cold shoulder a few yrs back, but is that the only reason? Would they have been a better add than JMU?

Someone help me out here. Really trying to understand if we’re trying to build the Virginia footprint why we never picked them up. A nonexistent CUSA over a growing SBC.. Doesn’t make sense

I do hate it for most of our recruiting though. Two more FCS call-ups in the Deep South to dilute the recruiting pool.

If CUSA can land Liberty that is massive! I understand the pushback but damn that’s a solid athletic program. All in all these are the very best adds available.

I'm going to use my time Machine to go back to 2012 to tell the CUSA board that 9 years from then they'll be celebrating the additions of Jacksonville State as saving the conference from non existence after the Sun Belt and MAC poached half their programs...

Liberty has a lot of baggage that goes beyond the athletic program. It also tends to be a lightning rod for controversy. Then there was that donation/bribe they tried giving SBC members trying to get in, I'm not sure of the whole story there but it just seems that there's a lot of shady things other schools don't want to be associated with, fair or not.

Ignoring their other issues, Liberty just didn't fit the public regional university mold. Liberty probably jumped at CUSA because if there is an expansion, they don't want to be left out.

They're still 1 FBS and D1 school short of being eligible, correct? The only two FBS teams left are UConn and UMass. It's hard to see either one joining that mess.
