Not often do schools switch tiers on the conference prestige meter, but it appears barring unforeseen circumstances that very thing is about to happen to the North Louisiana "rivals"

Wonder how that plays into recruiting, media coverage and attendance going forward?

Will Tech still be perceived by most as being a level above ULM even if/when the Bulldogs belong to a low-profile, hodge-podge of a conference?

ULM has always been a bare-bones operation, so it's not as if the Warhawks suddenly will be able to spend their way past their neighbors 35 miles to the west.

Their budget is still one of the worst in FBS.

Lets not pretend theyre getting 20-25M a year from ESPN other conference payouts.

So playing in the Sunbelt/on ESPN vs. playing in the WAC(?)/on the CBS Sports Network(?) won't be a difference maker in the minds of recruits who are choosing between those two football programs?

Thinking Terry Bowden and his staff might be playing that card if they haven't already

ULM is bare-bones. Budget is only $15 Million. That budget would be in the bottom half of the Big Sky Conference Doesn't matter if they are on ESPN+.

LA Tech is a much better university, overall.

LaTech’s budget is $23M

ULM’s budget is $18M

ULM will equal LaTech’s budget by 2023, and be in a better conference. They will have to overcome decades of ineptitude whereas LaTech has been very respectable to very good over that timeframe.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? Probably not.

Im nearly 40 and havent had cable in years. Dont have ESPN so cant watch it.

Kids in their teens dont watch games either, much less cable. They take in highlights in clips of 30 seconds. They dont care.

$1.25M from the new ESPN contract. Plus they have raised a bunch of money since Bowden/Rich Rod hire. Not to mention a higher CFP payout for the SBC.

LaTrch will go backwards in a new CUSA or independent. So it is a reasonable assumption that ULM will experience a growth period while LaTech regresses or stagnates.

Source on the contract that each school is going to net and additional 1.25 million a year? That still leaves another 7 million

Yeah, ULM is now in a much better conference than LA-Tech.

ULM conference affiliation > Tech conference affiliation

Tech sporting success > ULM sporting success.

ULM needs to create a winning culture, with an engaged fan base, and extra support. It shouldn’t be about who is better than who but how can they help one another be better.

It’s not $8M in difference. Expenditures is what the athletic budget is. LaTech is at $23M while ULM is at $18M. So that is a difference of $5M.

LaTech will have near $0 media revenue in a new CUSA and ULM will receive $2M per year from the SBC. CFP will absolutely be higher in the SBC than CUSA.

In nearly every single aspect of this comparison ULM in the SBC has a brighter future than LaTech. It’s up to ULM to capitalize on that.

I think they do and writhing 5 years will surpass LaTech in athletic budget.

No. The pecking orders are this way.

LSU
Tulane
La. Tech

Then a steep drop off to La.-Monroe and La.-Lafayette in football wise.

You are going to be surprised when the new CUSA get their new TV deal next year. It’ll be more than anyone expects.

I'd say the pecking order is, football wise .....

LSU

- steep cliff drop the size of the grand canyon -

That might be true, but only because I think most are expecting near-zero dollars, so anything above that will be hundreds of % points above expectations.

Liberty can just sponsor the whole league via the LFSN. Pay every member a couple mil a year, then sublicense games of note to ESPN.
