But yes athletics hasn’t been an embarrassment and not having a molester scandal (like some other schools in MI) was a major plus. And yes she is a great lady and reps the school well. Well the bar really wasn’t set that high.
You're really giving blame for the rebrand to Kathy? That's just silly.

No, didn’t say that. But with a couple of times I’ve seen where she was asked about rebrand she just doesn’t comment or passes the question to someone else. If your retiring and have the leverage that she has, go out trails blazing instead of sitting quiet. Many of her athletes and coaches have clearly spoken against it.

She's a professional. She doesn't do politics or take things public.

She told Proudfoot her opinion early on.

She worked for Western for 42 years. She's established a great reputation & is a trailblazer in her profession.

Why would she make the rebrand a priority in her final days? They made the decision & clearly didn't care what most people thought. Not sure what you think Kathy could've changed. And why is it relevant to a discussion about her time as AD?

When all you can say is that she is “a professional” and “has a good reputation”, just shows how low our bar is for a mediocre program and AD. The final days have been years. Everyone knew it. It was just officially announced. She doesn’t need to make the rebrand a priority. She just needs to do more than smile.

That's not all I can say about Kathy.

She has hired 3 hockey coaches. They are all home run hires. She also had to deal with the Big Ten blowing up the CCHA & WCHA. We landed in the NCHC, the best conference in college hockey.

She has hired 3 football coaches. Bill Cubit was a B+ hire. PJ Fleck is the most successful coach in the history of our program. We never had an undefeated season in the modern era of college football. We never won a MAC Championship game. We never went to a bowl on the level of the Cotton Bowl. Tim Lester is probably her most disappointing hire based on where PJ had our program and where it is now.

She has hired 3 basketball coaches. Robert McCullum was OK. The roster he built helped set up Hawk's success. Hawk was around too long. But, he is still a very successful hire. He took us to 2 of our 3 NCAA appearances. He finished 1st in the MAC West 8 times. Clayton Bates gets an incomplete. I'm not optimistic. But, I also think he only got the job because of the timing of COVID.

Not sure how you consider that mediocre judged against our actual history. It probably is mediocre if you're judging it against some hypothetical program that doesn't exist. Her success has raised your expectations of what we should expect from this University. I hope her predecessor can meet or exceed our expectations.

I say your grading on the WMU mediocre Curve. Home Boy Tim Lester has a better winning percentage than Cubit. Tim has a winning record against CMU (Cubit doesn’t). and they both haven’t won a bowl game or even won the West Division. If that gets Cubit a B+ Hire then Lester must be an A- in your curve. Cubit won some nice P5 games but that doesnt get you any award. Most of Kathy recent hires were just promoting an assistant coach or brining back somone. She rarely went “Job searching herself”. When she did she got Fleck and Murray. But that was long ago. And yes she is a nice lady, lol.

RE: Kathy Beauregard announces retirement
Cubit had a couple 8, 9 win seasons, plus CMU was good when he was coach. Plus his wins vs the P5. I think I prefer Cubit over TL at this point. B+ seems a little generous considering his bad seasons. Maybe B for BC, & B- for TL.

Blashill: A
Fleck: A
Murray: B
Hawkins: B
Fersch: Incomplete, but as of now A
Bates: Incomplete, but as of now C (taking over a complete rebuild so lots of room to grow)
TL: B-
Cubit: B

B- for Lester seems extremely generous.

Bill Cubit didn't inherit PJ Fleck's football team & PJ Fleck's salary. That team was overflowing with talent & confidence when Lester took over. We almost beat USC in his first game. The talent, swagger, & aggressiveness has slowly eroded ever since. And the ball is no longer the program. We've probably had the most talent in the MAC West every year of Lester's tenure. We've found a way to not win the MAC West every year of Lester's tenure.
