GSU isn't even remotely the dominate team in women's basketball.

Troy is running that ship currently, with Little Rock good enough to win any year as well... but Troy has had the edge over them lately.

Only if Marshall required it 05-stirthepot

The waiving of fees pretty much guarantees that the media deal is increasing to what has been claimed. Otherwise you take the entry fees to make up for reduced payouts across the board.

As things currently stand, you have two Flagships in each division (Read Strike Group). App State and Louisiana. Until two other programs actually play in the Conference Championship game, that's how it will stay.

04-cheers
I'd think you have to go sport for sport, when talking conference flagships. Unless the same schools are dominant in everything. For football I'd say App and Louisiana too.

Maybe we should make a more complete list.

If you're including the newbies, then how do you overlook ODU for Men's & Women's basketball. An argument can be made for baseball as well.

Yeah these would have to clearly be broken down A LOT further. These are just off the head opinions.

RE: Marshall had entry fees waived
The SBC couldn't just waive entry fees for one and not all, otherwise these new relationships would be starting out lopsided and would create animosity out of the gate. Correct call by Gill and current members' leadership.

Appears the SBC got stronger in just about every sport across the board with each new member bringing something to the table. Now it's time to produce!

I tried to tell one of those people desperate for the Marshall to SBC to fall through that exit and entrance fees are negotiable and would not be a barrier. They were floating a $10 million in fees theory that would keep it from happening.

Agreed. Added more depth to baseball, football, softball, soccer, and basketball. Not to mention, a strong regional footprint. Why wouldn't you waive some entry fees. It should all pay off.

My hope is JMU and ODU reunited will reignite sparks from two programs with decent histories.

Just gonna say, for football Marshall will compete for the top right away. We just blew the game at appy this season with a new HC and a defense finding its way in a new scheme. But it will be fun and great competition in football. ODU brings nothing to the table really in football.

Basketball will be Marshall and ODU.

Other than that, i do not know.

Yeah. App was finding it's way in that game with a new QB and the 3rd or 4th offensive coordinator in 4 years as well.

App has had a turnover issue this year against Marshall, Louisiana, and Coastal. If App doesn't have the one turnover against Miami, App likely wins that game. Many of these turnovers are just poor decisions by players.

Marshall lost at App because Huff thinks that warp speed on offense is the only speed and the defense should be able to keep up. They couldn't. Plus you couldn't execute in the red zone. You should have some empathy for turnovers as your game against MTSU isn't a loss without those fumbles.

Yeah, gotta go with app on this one. Very evenly matched game. The better team won.

Agreed and the App game seemed to be a turning point for Huff. He has finally slowed the offense down, at least at times, since the App game. That's also still the only missed FG our kicker has missed all year.

Either way, both teams made plays, both teams made mistakes. It was two good teams playing good football and App came out on top. That's why we play 4 quarters.

We can if this and if that....but if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.

We’ve backed off warp speed the last 3 games. It’s good to see our new coach isn’t overly strong headed with his approach, and it has allowed the defense to play better. The shutout this week doesn’t seem impressive because FIU is FIU, but their QB did come in averaging about 285 a game and I think we gave up about 250 total yards and they only made the redzone once.

No surprise fees waived with expectation that the entry isn’t causing anyone to lose money

Maybe we should make a more complete list.

How in the world is USA not included for baseball? And why in the world are we bringing that childish CUSA argument to this board? Let that die with CUSA. We are stronger together.

How in the world is JMU not included for softball?

Also, JMU is in top four all time in NCAA wins for women’s basketball

Let's see...
1) You haven't played an inning of softball in this conference.
2) We have the nicest facilities.
3) And you don't have the softball history that Louisiana has. Our first coach, Yvette Girouard (ever heard of her?) was basically a softball pioneer in the South. Pat Murphy and Alyson Habetz (ever heard of them?) got their starts here. With the exception of 1998, we've made the post season every year since 1990 and hosted regionals 12 times, 7 super regional appearances (format started in '05), and 6 WCWS appearances. These numbers may be old but: 54 All Americans, 8th most all time in NCAA tourney appearances, and 13th most all time in NCAA tourney victories.

JMU has been pretty damn good lately, big congrats on that. I was rooting really hard for you guys in the WCWS this past year. But we are top dog in this conference until proven otherwise. Heck, maybe you guys can finally break our conference series unbeaten streak that goes back to St. Patty's weekend 2013.

And my apologies if the earlier comments come off as harsh, we've just seen other conference teams like USA and Texas St go on some really good multi-year runs with a great pitcher or two and then they kind of slump again. Not going to crown JMU as top in softball until ya'll are here for a few years and kick us off of our pedestal.
