Not two bids level probably but if you can get the 12 or 13 seed as opposed to the 14 or 15 then the chances of winning a game goes up exponentially
The SBC can easily pull a 12 seed. Georgia State could've been a 12-13 seed last year. The league pulled a 16 because a (7-8) in conference play App got hot in the postseason tournament, shooting lights out.

Man I'm just glad that we weren't the first ones to say that

Our fans hate the non-D1 games, at least our message board fans, but we have both NAIA Carlow University and D3 Eastern Mennonite this year... With great guy/great player/terrible coach Lou Rowe at the helm we actually were tied at the half with Eastern Mennonite a few years ago 03-pissed

Playing Carlow is gonna be a pretty anti-climactic first game at the AUBC for many next Wednesday but oh well, we get ODU a few days later and UVA next month.

I'm still shocked we won the conference last year, not sure how that happened. Good thing for us, alot of our seniors also returned this year. So it should be a fun year. I plan on going to a few of the games. We'll see if our title translates to more butts in the audience.

If Kinsey can sure up his mid range jumper, I think he could go in the 1st round of the NBA draft. He has everything else that a scout is looking for the the nrew era of positionless players. He also shot 46% from the arc last year and 89% FT shooter.

Not only have NBA scouts been in the Cam Henderson Center to see Kinsey but there have been 3 (Golden State, Milwaukee and Atlanta) have been there just to see Andrew Taylor over the summer.

Also come Nov 3rd The Ragin' Cajuns invade the Henderson Center. The last time the Cajuns and Herd hooked up I was setting in the Cajundome dressed in Green and White. That was a 71-61 Marshall win in Nov 1996. I was immediately spotted by the Marshall bench when they came out.

App didn't win the conference title, they won the Tournament which is different obviously. With some of the recruits Kerns is bringing in as well as the excitement around the result last season and some returning players, App has a shot to be pretty good this year and maybe beyond.

As long as Kerns stays around, I think you'll see some major growth in App State Basketball.

Tournament determines conference title. Regular season winner gets you the top seed and a free trip to the NIT.

I feel like it should be the other way around 05-stirthepot

Being #1 after an 18 game conference schedule is more impressive than winning a tournament that 1 bad game could screw over your entire season....

An argument could be made if you play a perfect double round robin. But even then what do you do when you have two teams with the same conference record that split their head to head? I never want to see a title and trip to the NCAA tournament awarded by a coin flip or some other meaningless tiebreaker.

I was sitting next to some GSU fans when RJ Hunter scored his 1,000th point at the game in Troy. 13/14 season I believe. They were really cool to talk with. RJ might be one of the best I've watched play in the SBC

Fair point. Don't be regretting that when #12 Troy upsets #1 ODU to ruin your chances of going to the big dance! 05-stirthepot 04-cheers

RE: Let’s talk basketball
One thing about CUSA basketball over the years was the league wins postseason games.

The league also got screwed when a Top 25 MTSU team lost its regular season finale, opening tournament game, and was left out. That was 2018. They were really, really good in that span.

Long story short, I always have felt CUSA men’s basketball was better than the numbers indicated. UAB, MTSU, Marshall, North Texas all won NCAA Tournament games since 2015. WKU underperformed it’s talent, being good enough to win big games but always hit some unforeseen bumps in the road.

ODU has had some good teams and Marshall has been pretty good the past 5-6 seasons, including a conference championship and an NCAA win over Wichita State in 2018.

Southern Miss was very good in 2019, too. They are capable.

I think the new schools will be in the fight for regular season and conference tournament championships. I don’t think nor expect the current Sun Belt hoops teams will back down or concede an inch. I suspect this to be a highly competitive basketball league.

Cajuns are going to be big. Four players in the 6-9--6-11 range. Theo Akwuba is the returning SBC Defensive Player of the Year and preseason first team all conference. Transfer Jordan Brown was a 5* recruit out of HS. His dad was a great player here.Dou Gueye (pronounced Gay) is a very good rebounder.

The Cajuns have brought in several transfers. In addition to Brown, we have players from San Jose St., Creighton and St. John's (Two of them are Lafayette natives).

The Cajuns' biggest issue is the only true point guards they have are either not ready or have been injured. Louisiana is picked second in the SBC behind Georgia State.

Hopefully we don't turn into Thanksgiving turkeys in Huntington. Looking forward to the game.

I can still remember sitting in my car listening to the end of our game back in...must have been 2012...? We weren't back in the Sun Belt yet. I think it was James Vincent at the line to shoot 2 with us down by 1 and like a second left on the clock. I'm sure missing those is a career moment he'd rather forget...
