OT: Why I've been coming to prefer NFL over college
I still watch both, but on ESPN's NCAAF home page here are the scores from games they highlight:

30-13
31-20
44-37
44-34
33-24
66-49

All of college football has been trending this direction for a couple decades now. Don't get me wrong...you'll see a 30-13 or 31-20 score in NFL from time to time, but games where the teams score a combined 115 points shouldn't happen in football. And we praise those games as "how exciting!!"

RE: OT: Why I've been coming to prefer NFL over college
The average total points scored in an NFL game is about 49, and the average for college is about 60. The scores don't matter to me though. I'll always like college better because it's my alma mater playing.

Maybe if I had been born in the USA, Dallas for example, I'd be a fan of Dallas teams as much as I am a supporter of UTSA. I'll never know though because I was born in, and essentially grew up in, Germany. So I have no true allegiance to any particular city or state. Some people just root for the local teams, but I have an issue with that because if I had a job that would require me to move regularly, should I then keep changing teams? Again, it would be different if I had been born here.

My favorite professional teams are pretty much all over the place but I stick with them, and I chose them for different reasons (Vikings, Rams, Texans, SA Spurs, Pittsburgh Penguins). But I'll never be anywhere as close a diehard fan of any of them as I am of UTSA because I actually have a true connection there.

How many teams have good odds to win the CFP every year? No wonder coaches just want to play fast and at least be entertaining in defeat.

ESPN’s obsession with promoting the CFP contenders nationally every year really kills my interest. I will never watch Florida or Ohio State and if that’s all they have to talk about then I am going to tune out.

With luck the Sun Belt might have three ranked teams come Monday. That is the what got me to check the Top 25 scoreboard for the first time all season.

College football is far more entertaining than the NFL, and it's not even close. I'll take traditions, bands, & rivalries, over salary caps, free agency, & the players union. NFL= No Fun League.

As I get older and have greater demands on my time I just find myself gravitating to watching things that are enjoyable. I enjoy watching the Miami Heat because they are always competitive, I don’t enjoy watching the Dolphins because they have been a 20 year dumpster fire.

When it comes to football I do enjoy watching Bama and UGA despite no attachment to either school, I can appreciate the quality of the product they put on the field. Candidly I don’t enjoy watching FIU, we don’t need to win the CFP but it would be nice to compete in conference, we don’t.

It is all personal preference, but I find watching a technically proficient competitive team more enjoyable than watching a disaster.

I like the college game better for two reasons but I admit ESPN is ruining the game.

1) Tradition. The traditions and atmosphere around a college football setting are second to none. I could go into much more detail but think everyone here understands this.

2) Variation. The NFL feels like clone football to me. Every team is doing the same stuff on offense and defense. It’s just a matter of who has the better roster. While a lot of teams in college have gone to the spread, I actually think you see a lot more innovation in the college game and every game is different. You literally never know what’s going to happen.

For these reasons, the college game is more fun and less boring than the NFL.

I have a different perspective on this. If my team goes 0-82 or 0-16 (depending on the sport, of course), I will still watch and enjoy every game they play (and lose). I have loved the NHL for decades now, even though my Panthers (who are really good right now) are rarely the class of the league.

I love college football over the NFL, because I find connection to the team that represents my alma mater. I think kids playing in the NCAA are truly playing football the way it should be played. With pure joy and emotion when it is not all about a paycheck. I used to watch Miami Dolphins. Today, I don't even know who is on the team. I used to watch Miami Heat, too. I do not know who's on the team anymore.

Personal preferences. I’ve known enough pro athletes in my life though to know it is much more than a paycheck. You don’t get to that level without being hyper competitive.

Competitiveness is not the problem. It's the motivation, not the what's by the why's of it all.
