Wild finish. SMU did a long drive and kicked a 46 Yd FG to tie with 35 seconds left. Kicked off to Houston's ace returner and he took it 102 yards for the TD with only the kicker getting a hand on him.
UH got 15 yard celebration penalty, squibbed the kickoff. SMU returner, who had already taken one all the way, picked it up at the 30 and got all the way to the UH 35. Hail Mary with 7 seconds left failed.

Yes, it was a very exciting game, kudos to the AAC.
And a surprise in that Houston usually loses these kinds of close games on freak plays, and instead won one.

RE: October 30 General Games Thread
so a good weekend for the AAC I think.
Cincy won and so they're set. Houston beating SMU won't hurt too much- they should be 11-1 and face Cincy in the AAC title game. That's going to be for all the marbles you'd think.
CUSA saw UTEP lose. So only UTSA undefeated. Probably won't be on top 25, but they're close. And them being like that is great obviously for the future with them!
MWC sees San Diego St lose. For SDSU to make the title game now, they'd need a Fresno loss. Realistically only shot of that is next week when they host Boise- though maybe @ San Jose St could be tricky).
SBC sees a lot of chalk. Will be interesting to see if/where Coastal is ranked. But it's meaningless pretty much as App St totally controls their own destiny- they win out, they're division champs. have left 1-7 Ark St, 5-3 South Alabama, 4-4 Troy, and 2-6 Georgia Southern left.

A good weekend for the AAC in terms of clinching the NY6 spot, for sure.
But IMO, the calculus hasn't changed that much - if UTSA goes unbeaten and the AAC champ has one loss, that will be interesting. Other than that, the bid is the AAC's.
As far as a possible playoff bid, though, IMO it hurt that Houston beat SMU. A Cincy vs un beaten SMU game was going to be Cincy's last chance to face another prominent regular season team.

only way the AAC can have a 1 loss champion now is Houston, Cincy, or SMU. Any would be ahead of UTSA undefeated. Houston would have wins over both SMU and Cincy. Cincy would have wins over Notre Dame and Houston. SMU would have wins over Cincy and Houston.
I think playing Houston in a few weeks at 11-1 in the CCG might help Cincy out quite a bit. They would be in the top 20 of the CFP. better opponent for instance than a Big Ten East team would play or Oregon.

I was flipping around with Auburn-Ole Miss, Ohio St.-PSU and UH-SMU. Lot of interesting games last night. Didn't get to UNC-ND.

Well first, I suspect you are correct that any 1-loss AAC champ will beat out an unbeaten UTSA for the NY6 bid. But, I think it will put the AAC in an uncomfortable ideological position, that of basically having to use the same arguments against UTSA that P5 conferences use against the AAC when *it* has an unbeaten champ - that SOS should trump being unbeaten. I agree with that argument, btw, but the AAC has spilled a lot of ink the last four years gnashing its teeth about the injustice of their unbeaten champ being ranked behind one-loss P5 teams.
Also, I'm not sure how good an 11-1 Houston will be viewed as being. I mean, they lost to a 5-4 Texas Tech team that is currently 8th in the Big 12 standings. That's 8th out of 10 teams.
Their OOC wins are against Rice, a team that is in 6th place in CUSA-West, not CUSA, just CUSA-West, and FCS Grambling, who is 2-3 in SWAC play this year.
Other than that, they have a bunch of wins in an AAC that currently in the computers isn't even the best G5 conference this year.

Rice is 4th in CUSA West, not 6th and they were sitting in 3rd until losing in OT yesterday.
