Continue the Tradition ...Beat The JMU PUKES
Lets see if State Legislator Cox has the stones to hold JMU to the same Athletic spending to Tuition standards of the Bill he got passed. If he does there is NO Way JMU will ever be able to raise that kind of money or lower their Tuition costs to cover this move up. Lets also see if the Legislature allocates more operating money to JMU than ODU. JMU has traditionally got more base adequacy $ as a % of Students than ODU.

If they change the bill to allow more athletics fee money, that would be a great result for us. It's JMU has the clout to get that done, then that's one more reason joining a conference with them is great for ODU.

Absolutely a win/win for ODU if they can get the bill changed.

Just count me in the small group that ain't feeling all that upside energy simply about creating a rivalry with JMU. It ain't necessarily bad, but also ain't quite what I would call lifting ODU's program up. And I'll gladly sit in the minority in that position.

Mr BB makes a good point here about how they may now look to change the Cox Bill to make it possible for them. I really don't care at this point. Our donors have done great things against a higher standard and without the state's support, unlike those that focus on privileged up in Rockingham County. And that's a program to really be proud of.

Go Monarchs.

JMU should be held to the same standards (e.g. the "Cox Bill" should remain in effect as was written and should be imposed on all schools who desire to acquire FBS status). I've seen too many slip shod actions by the General Assembly as relates to this issue. Personally, I didn't and don't agree with that law but it should not be changed now that JMU wants into FBS. I also do not think that state tax dollars should go to the buildout of the remainder of Bridgeforth stadium. If JMU wants to play football it also has to play by the same financial rules. And this financial accounting of revenues and expenses of athletic department budgets, also a creature of the GA, gives no meaningful way to compare the athletic budgets at our colleges and universities. It's time to hold folks accountable.

So out of spite you don't want them to make a change that is sorely needed by our athletic department?

No but it limited us in the building of our stadium and frankly has hurt our growth. Cox did that on purpose. Now if they change that law they should compensate us for all the investments over the last 7 years that we had to use private money to build. That law was hamstring to our move.up. that was purposely put in place to hurt ODU. Lets see what happens.....

Maybe the law gets changed after a few years. Say after ODU starts the series 10-0 at the FBS level. And 20-0 in basketball.

Call it petty if you want but I don't think that you really have a grasp on what the GA did to stunt the growth of our program. Mr.BigBlue, ODUalum78, and ODUSmitty, I think, get it as do a few others. It's politics and often times it gets ugly. And if you are one of those who think that the GA will magically refund Old Dominion, you are mistaken.
