I think if UTEP can beat UTSA
and Finish with a 9 or 10 win season. I think MWC calls on them and SMU.

I can't see a conference realignment decision hinging on a couple of wins in a single football season.

Id love for this prediction to be true for UTEP but I do not see SMU paying entrance and exit fees and turning down 7m a year in TV money to join the MWC. Especially when they have hopes of going to the Big 12.

Conference invites have very little to nothing to do with performance on the field/court. Especially not the outcome of a game or two.
As for the UTEP-UTSA game, before I might have been rooting for UTSA to stay unbeaten and keep a CUSA team ranked. But now, I am inclined to root for fellow CUSA member UTEP. Yes, UTSA is as good as gone.
But mostly, I don't have a Dawg in this fight..

I mostly agree with you tech80. Realignment has very little to do specific games, but I think trends, whether losing or winning ones, can have some impact.

Yep, of course. Everything else being equal a conference is more likely to invite a winning program over a consistent losing one. But the key is the "everything else being equal" part of the equation.

Aye, there’s the rub, indeed.

How about UTEP play FAU first?

Right? They keep saying “if” but I hope their team is looking past this game like the fan base is.

I'm not sure which UTEP fans you're referring to but I highly doubt the two or three UTEP fans on this board is a reflection of the actual team.

Smoke em, UTEP. The UTSA QB is pretty good though.
I think UTEP has the DL to hang with anyone

Nothing more I'd love to see than UTEP win out and get back to 50,000 for football games.

Thanks for the support. I'm hoping I'm able to catch the game live. It's been a long time since we've had a full sun bowl for a meaningful game. Our renovations last year dropped our capacity to a little under 47k. I would love to see how the stadium looks full after the construction project.

A dream of mine too. Beating FAUX won't be easy though, especially in their Erector Set of a stadium. But hey, that erector set got them into the Ack.

Because that game is just not important in the west standings. UTEP can lose that game and beat UTSA and still win the West....with both schools having 7-1 conference records

LOL, I never thought UTEP would be in the mix for a championship...in football mind you. But, funnier things have happened and that realignment proves it.

MWC isn't going to budge again until the Big XII and/or Pac-12 starts moving again. That's at least 4-5 years out.
