Please don't take offense if it feels like I am overexplaining things you probably already know.
Pairwise is seperated into 3 comparisons.
1. RPI rating.
2. Record against Common Opponents
3. Head to Head record. (You earn a full point per win)
Winning each comparison earns you one point.
Against Michigan we lose RPI .5966 to .5851. 1-0 Michigan
We lose Common Opponents as we both have played Duluth. Michigan is 1-0 against them, and we are 1-1. 2-0 Michigan
Head to head we are one victory apiece against them. Michigan 3-1 winning the comparison.
Taking the Denver comparison.
Against Denver we lose RPI .5988 to .5851. 1-0 Denver
We tie the Common Opponents. Both teams are 1-1 against UMD, and 2-0 against Miami. 1-0 Denver still.
Head to head we are 0-2. 3-0 Denver winning the comparison.
If we had split against Denver then the Pios winning is good for us, but we were swept, so we get nothing other than more losing COMMON OPPONENT comparisons when Denver loses. So, best case is we sweep Denver in the return series at Lawson. That will bring back the H2H comparison, and likely help us in the overall RPI comparison as well. Will a WMU home sweep be enough to pass them in RPI? Who the heck knows. The RPI will change a ton before that happens again, but winning is always good. This is why people say to not look at PWR until at least the end of January.
So yes, Denver continuing to win helps DU's RPI, which then gives us a good win for our RPI rating, but we need to beat them in the future games. So, it all boils down to just winning your schedule to not need to worry about all this mess.
Edit: Small but important corrections. Also the last bit about winning. Cuz just win, duh.
