It is cheap. Well, except for those outrageously high coaches salaries03-lmfao

I'm not sure what the stats are, but there are remarkably few distance only track programs. That's a much smarter arrangement than cross country with no track IMO, but I digress. It would not shock me to see CBU have a full track program in the next handful of years. I believe the lowest distance they had this past season was a girl in the 400, and I think a couple people in the 600 indoor.

When I was involved with the NAIA, that was last few years of Adams and Western before they went D2. Fort Lewis was good too, but down a notch.

Incidentally, a new juco program popped up a few years ago in that area, south west of Pueblo. Maybe in Alamosa? Can't recall the name, but it should be a similar elevation.

Trinidad State has a program. DI NJCAA is pretty high quality. DII (only 2nd year) is pretty high as well.

Good luck to all of the WAC teams that will be a Regionals.

No.

Sam has always focused a bit more on track and field particularly the sprints and field events.

In Texas, this is what you do. When we were in Southland, Corpus and Lamar focused a bit more on distance, XC. Corpus seemed to load up on internationals in particular but both schools also could use upgraded facilities for track

Can you elaborate?

TAMU-CC - Unless something changed, I thought TAMU-CC had one of the best track facilities in the Southland Conference. The running track may need resurfacing. The soccer/track stadium was built in 2013.

Lamar - The stadium could probably use some "spiffing up". Ty Terrell Track and Field Complex doesn't have anywhere close to the look of something like TAMU-CC's stadium, but the track, jumping pits, and throwing areas were renovated in 2015 with Tarkoff BSS300 surface. As I recall the track meets NCAA requirements (or at least did at time of resurfacing). Cost of the work was $396,000. Looking at proposals for other Tarkoff BSS300 installations, it looks like the surface and work would have been warranted 5 years. So we're a little over 1 year past the warranty period. I couldn't find a useful life for the surface, but if useful life is similar to consumer products, the useful life is usually well beyond a warrantied period. Maybe someone involved in Track and Field would have some information.

Note: The information on Lamar Athletic's website is grossly out of date. It still references the Monsanto running surface from 2001.

Here's a pic I took shortly after the resurfacing project for a Wikipedia article.

Here's a look at the track before the 2015 resurfacing.

ACU had two women qualify as individual runners for the NCAA Championship. Both SUU teams qualified as at large teams from the Mountain West Region.
