He didn't say he agreed with it, just that it is what it is.

I think this is why the 12 team playoff is so important and maybe making super seniors permanent - give 6 years to play 5 and the blue bloods will continue graduating guys early while developmental teams will have guys developing for 5 years. Will create more parody and more opportunities for the non-blue bloods. One could argue the blue bloods will poach the super seniors via the transfer portal but there are only so many D1 scholarships to go around.

Bolded, seems like a reasonable plan to keep more teams viable for what we hope will soon be an expanded playoff. On that note, my sincere hope for Ridder is that he stays healthy all season--not just to lead UC to the promised land but to reward his commitment to our University and to his own opportunity for a professional career in the NFL. Let's hope his loyalty is rewarded.

True. The polls are good to us. The Committee is not.

My frustration with the committee and many pollsters is that they rank teams based on how they are playing now. The ranking is supposed to reflect an average of how each team has payed over the course of entire season. Too often pollsters only see a team through the lens of how they played the past week or two.

There is no set criteria for either human ranking system...thus, what you're describing is a legitimate way some could rank teams.

You are correct that there is no set criteria but I'm not sure I'd agree that means all ways of ranking are "legitimate". And even if you accept the "you are only as good as your last game" method of ranking as a legit one, the problem is that a lot of voters seem to follow the "the criteria is whatever I want it to be at any given time for any given team" method of ranking.

(I should probably state or re-iterate that I post this poll/bowl stuff just for fun as opposed to its genius or likelihood of accuracy.) Anyway, Mandel's latest is: #2 OSU v. #3 UC in the Cotten Bowl (OK at #4).

That game would outdraw the championship game for viewership and hype leading up to kickoff. So many storylines and angles

Love that OSU dropped, but if I were Oregon I'd be pissed.

Best case scenario, SMU and Houston both remained ranked.

RE: Polls
As I've pointed out all year, the voters have a ton of respect for this team. More than many of our fans.

Now let's see where the committee is. That's a bigger worry

Yep, and Notra Dahm is now in the Top 10. Nice road win that keeps on giving...

Think there's no bias in the voting? This Spartans media putz has us lowest on his ballot at #7 this week.

Quote:Jack Ebling has been covering Michigan sports professionally for over thirty years. He was named Michigan Sportswriter of the Year three times, and in 2006 he was inducted into the Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, none of our writers have a vote. That's probably a good thing because I would imagine Daugherty would do UC no favors.

Agree. And I would suggest Jack Ebling has both bias and a little self-interest in voting MSU to the CFP, neither of which is a good look for a sports "journalist".

In the case of MSU, I'm still not sold on the Spartans because I wasn't sold on Michigan this year either so a close win against U of M only suggests we need more information on MSU. The Spartans had a very close win that could have gone either way @ Indiana and we know what the Hoosiers have.

I think the B10 will mostly sort itself out in the next month but I really question the number of teams they have in the upper half of the Top 25. Maybe they all cannibalize each other on the way to the CCG. Finally, I'm beginning to think IU won't win another game this season and that doesn't help UC at all.
