From my understanding per JMU board discussions, the IARC is only there to make recommendations. The GA part is just appropriations. JMU is well within the cox bill and will have no problems, per AD Bourne. Once BOV votes and It appears the board will vote yes, then it is pretty much a done deal. Could be wrong...

Maybe the GA can amend the Cox bill now that JMU is in FBS. Ive always thought that was basically an anti-ODU bill forced through the GA by a JMU grad under the guise of keeping student fees low. The only school it hurt was ODU and basically had zero benefit to the majority of students in state. They even made sure JMUs stadium and basketball arena were grandfathered in, while our football stadium was not. Though some JMU grads do think Cox was an "FCS for life guy", and did it to keep JMU in FCS. If so, that didnt work.

That’s a lot of French Fries.
Keep at it bro. I have faith that once you master which end of the mop to use, you too will advance to the fry station.

Heh, might feel like fast lane to you, but JMU has been working on this for a decade or two with facility improvements, etc. The discussions around creating/joining a regional FBS alignment have also been underway for a very long time with peer schools.

less than zero chance of that.
you don't go this far without knowing the answers.
That's what SHSU said. Different situation, but what a cluster that is.
What happened there?

As predicted. I saw on the JMU board where someone said that this would have to end up happening unless they wanted to wait a month, which they don't with the ESPN Cotnract on the table to be signed as well.
Speaking of which, the new AAC programs are going to have a meltdown when the details of the new contract become public.
I can't wait.

It's more and more shocking that the AAC passed on our new conference mates. I think the stink about the decision hasn't yet reached it's peak. Literally putting the fox in the henhouse.

I do think it would hurt our business model. JMU vs App Marshall and ODU are going to be good rivalry games iwth lots of regional interest. I know WKU and Marshall have a thing, but i'm not sure it would have wider regional interest and i don't think it would exist with any other school. JMO though.
Yeah obviously I'm biased but I don't think WKU would come close to the level of hatred there's gonna be between JMU and the rest of the east. There's already a ton with ODU and App, decent amount with Coastal, and some with the GSU's that'll keep growing. I'm sure it won't take long at all with Marshall even though there's basically nothing recent.
Although there was a Marshall at JMU basketball game not too long ago that was very intense and chippy then ended with a close JMU win and a Marshall player yelling at every JMU fan he could to s his d, among other things, on the way out.

The problem really is that the AAC, or maybe just fans of the programs, underestimated the impact of having Southern Miss and Marshall back on ESPN Contracts. I obviously don't have the numbers but I'd imagine that Southern Miss and Marshall both have higher viewership in football on ESPN than any school that the AAC added. They aren't market programs but they are statewide brands that garner viewership across an entire region because they aren't beholden to the city in which they reside.
App State, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, and Troy are all the same way. Their "market" extends well beyond where their campus is.
It's something the urbanites in the AAC don't understand. ECU fans get it when the topic comes up because their viewership extends across all of North Carolina, much like App's does.
JMU's reach extends from Northern Virginia, to the middle of the State and back down 29 to the border, as far as I can tell. I have a lot of family around Smith Mountain Lake (Penhook, super small town so we can say Rocky Mount or Gretna), and JMU gets as much play as Liberty does around that area, even while being FCS.

WKU game is circled on every teams calendar for all sports..... very few schools can say that. Everyone loves to hate us, but that’s what creates passion and drives excellence and why WKU continues to be decent in all sports. To say you bring more to the table than WKU is foolish, although I do believe JMU is a growing school headed in the right direction

Yes - but our alumni are overwhelmingly Richmond, DC and then head north - Philly, Bmore, NyC

There’s a rumor we told them we weren’t interested. At least that we were approached by another conference and told them thanks but no thanks. Marshall was rumored to have been in talks but likely decided the same. We likely then tried to salvage CUSA but when told that ESPN wouldn’t be bidding on our contract next go round, that was that. This is just connecting some dots. Couldn’t be happier how it worked out though, will miss playing WKU but this is as good as it gets.

Only thing left to decide is if we’ll use a backhanded bitchslap when we play them again or an old fashioned open palm. I’m a traditionalist myself but I must admit the backhand has some flair.

It's not a rivalry, when one team has never beat the other ODU>JMU

You guys better get these shots in while you still can. The series is gonna get pretty lopsided by the time ODUh gets their third win over the Dukes.

That's smart. Closing the freeway through campus during Thanksgiving would have been a nightmare.
