Uh….we both see each other as an easy win. Or at least as good as we’ll get.

I don’t see it with the setup we will have, but if…has to be Marshall. Too much history and respect between the teams.

RE: Cross-divisional Rivals
I say no just so we do still get to play all 7 teams every 4 years.
Besides each division has so many built in rivalries.
Troy/South “Battle For The Belt”
Troy/A-State need a name for their rivalry.
I like having the South game mid-season, which I didn’t at first. It gets its own attention in the state since it’s not held the same weekend as the Iron Bowl which is cool.
I want A-State/Troy to play the final game every year. I think personally I’ll consider them bigger rivals than Southern Miss, ULM, Louisiana, and lastly Texas State. I know South/USM want to build theirs as well and it would be a good final game of the year each season for those two.

I've thought for years if you suspended the membership of the league for 20-30 years that Louisiana/South Alabama could develop into a big rivalry. We've had our moments as rivals in baseball, softball, and basketball. I still wish I could find that video of Ronnie Arrow going off at the Cajundome but it's no longer on YouTube. But now that Southern Miss is in the league, I don't know what that would look like. Who will be our main rival? Troy, the instate school 170 miles away? Southern Miss 80 miles away? Or Louisiana, the school we've butted heads with in about every other sport? All I know is the East loves their tight knit rivalry infused group, and I can say the same for the West. Lots of rivals to go around!

Guess you don't really want to end your season with a loss to ULM almost every year. LOL

ODU fans need a spiritual successor to the '2000 Miles of Mild Disdain" rivalry.

Troy and South have only really become a rivalry since y’all started football. Without football there isn’t much true rivalry. Troy has caught up with South in basketball and baseball but I still see how UL/USA are rivals due to the heated non-football contests between the two.
That’s why I think A-State/Troy are also rivals. Before there was App State and before Napier turned UL into a powerhouse it was us two running the Belt in football. I, myself, consider ULM a rival as well but that’s for personal reasons haha.
I see Troy and South as major rivals.
South and Southern Miss will be major rivals.
Troy and Southern Miss will be heated but not the biggest rivalry.
Playing every season A-State and Troy could go from heated to major rival.

L O L O L. I mean you aren’t off all the way. Just looked it up and Troy is 7-7 against ULM since 2001 and 2-5 in Monroe. I definitely hate that place
Edit: Just looked it up and South Alabama is 3-5 all time against ULM and 0-4 in Monroe.
That place is cursed.

Troy is decent in baseball and has played USA well. But on what planet has Troy basketball caught up to South basketball? We are 27-11 all-time against Troy and on a 6-game winning streak against you and 12-4 in the last 16 games.

I have no idea why I included basketball in there. I was thinking baseball and just also typed basketball mindlessly lol

I see this narrative used a lot in reference to UL football. The Cajuns started making a strong commitment to football in the early 2010’s with Hud. Every year from 2011-2014 we finished amongst the top 3 in the final standings with the co-championship in 2013. (And please leave the NCAA violation crapola at the door, our teams still brought a lot of good pub for this conference) Troy was middling at best during that time. Astate was doing its one and done coach carousel thing, but I would say they were the consistent top dog. The Cajuns and Red Wolves were also bringing in some of the best recruiting classes at that time. Troy was top dog before that and then had that resurgence from 2016-2018.
I guess to sum up, us and doing well at this football thing isn’t just a development over the last 3 years with Napier, it’s been going on for over a decade now and predates most of the East division’s time in the SBC. Heck look which school has been pretty consistently near the top of the conference in football HC and staff salaries for the last decade.

Cross-divisional Rivals
I remember a few years ago the ACC scheduled in-conference out-of-division games as non conference matchups. That’s always an option. App vs UL is shaping up to be a good one. We could always go that route if we were both willing to burn 1 of 4 “OOC” game opportunities. Would certainly help both our SOS.

For cross I would say GS because we have zero history with all the teams but did have the 2005 playoff game with them.
I am okay if ODU wants to start something. At least someone pick us and wouldn't mind a trip to VA.

I’d say USA or GaSt. . . . USA we’re 4-3 since joining the conference, GAST, I believe we’re .500.
To actually have a rivalry, I believe both sides have to be capable of winning, No?
Everywhere else, we’re pretty much a doormat, and a homecoming invitation . ..

That's only because you've had 4 home games. Game is back in Mobile next year so we'll probably continue the trend of home team winning, even if inexplicably they should lose.

I am neutral on a 8-game vs. 9-game conference schedule, but I guess I’m just curious how you know it will be an 8-game schedule, and why you think it shouldn’t be 9.

I know, I know . . . it must be killing you guys to be down in a series to a team like ours..
To next year, in the meantime: scoreboard Bobcats . . .
