The summit league is already massive for NDSU and SDSU.
I don’t think travel costs will be that much worse.

I think it’s important to recognize the sunbelt has us beat in football.
The Cajuns, App, and Coastal are all rock solid. Usual top 50 teams.

But we can be competitive and maybe pass up the AAC when the Big12 guys leave.
Basketball will also be our sweet spot.

It depends on the variance to men's and women's sports.

For FBS football, the typical number is 8 but the league must sponsor 8 All-Female sports. 7 football schools is allowed if the league sponsors 9 All-Female sports.

As far as basketball:

NCAA D1 Manual says:

20.02.5.1 Minimum Number of Members. A multisport conference shall be composed of at least seven active Division I members. The member conference shall include at least seven active Division I members that sponsor both men's and women's basketball. (Adopted: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11)

I am hearing from folks in Lake Charles that CUSA officials reached out to McNeese State of the Southland Conference and the school is looking at whether they can afford to move up from FCS to FBS football. It would be great for the football crazy state of Louisiana to have a second school in CUSA in addition to Louisiana Tech. McNeese State has a rich and proud football tradition at the FCS level. However I question whether they have the financial capability to make the move up to CUSA and FBS level football.

Hopefully your commission goes after the Dakota and maybe even add Montana.

I would rather have South Eastern if we did add one too.

While being adjacent states, the population centers of the dakotas are in the east while in the west of Montana. From Fargo to Montana State is 750 miles and then another 200 to U Montana. The Montanas are better matched to the MWC.

Wyoming (closest MWC school) to NDSU is an 800 mile drive and 12 hours.

NDSU to Illinois State is 700 miles and a 10 hour drive.

I think you’d need ISU or UNI with SDSU to get NDSU.

Yep. And with that there are two issues:

1. You aren't getting Montana without Montana State or vice versa.

2. Montana is pretty adamant about staying FCS unless the Mountain West or a Power 5 Conference commits to adding them. They won't move up for any other conference.

It's not hate. McNeese has struggled because of hurricanes and I feel for them. Just because they're on a list of schools we've talked to doesn't mean much. From what I've heard, there have been numerous schools reach out to CUSA. Most won't make the cut but I imagine they'll all get the courtesy of being heard.

I find it hard to see that MO State would like to move to a conference with freaking Tarleton State and McNeese.
