its a lock at this point with #2 and #5 playing each other.. and cincy having a head to head over #6

cincy is basically win and in

I agree they should be, but I have just a little bit of concern about Oklahoma State.

I think you're correct. If it comes down to an OK State that wins out and Cincy, OK State could very well get the nod.

You repeat the same thing ad nauseum with insert different school here. So predictable and boring. 07-coffee3

Oklahoma State would have beaten # 10 Oklahoma and then #8 Baylor, with only loss a 3 point affair at Iowa State.

Oklahoma State would have beaten # 10 Oklahoma and then #6 Baylor, with only loss a 3 point affair at Iowa State.

2-loss Oklahoma ain't staying at #10 and 3-loss Baylor ain't staying at #8. Granted, two-loss Houston ain't staying where they are prior to CCG either (would be nice for UH to hang a hundred on UConn this week and move up at least a little more - previous AAC CCG losers HAVE stayed in the top 25 at least).
Yes there is a case there. Cincy's ND win still way better than those Big12 wins, and Houston win at least...comparable. And Committee already on record that they were impressed with how Houston dominated SMU last week.

Unfortunately, the committee doesn't (in my mind) punish losses enough. Losing to unranked Iowa State should hurt them. Similarly, I don't think that losing to an Oregon which lost to a baaaaaad Stanford and a good-not-great Utah has hurt Ohio State like it should. One of those Athletic articles I tweeted then posted here admitted as much - a lot more attention to quality wins / who you beat than to bad losses. (and that's before the excessive committee / media love for Matt Campbell kicks in).

But yeah, there's a discussion there.

Losing early is sure a lot better than losing late, too.

Yes, right now Cincy is #4, OK State is #7. Cincy is playing unranked ECU and #24 Houston. OK State is playing the #8 and #10 ranked teams.

To me, beating those two could be impressive enough to leapfrog Cincy and other teams in front of them. The CFP tends to be very impressed with wins over highly ranked teams.

People who think this can't happen are IMO not being realistic.

Well, about Oklahoma State, IMO they are being punished pretty strongly for the Iowa State loss. Sans that loss, they'd be a cinch to make the playoffs if they win out, with that loss they are unlikely to make the playoffs if they win out. A pretty dramatic change in fortune. And this is for losing by 3 points in the final minutes on the road vs a team that the computers say is #30 in the country, better than any teams Cincy has or will play save for Notre Dame and Houston.

As for the emphasis on quality wins, the win over Notre Dame is the only reason Cincy is in the playoff conversation. If the CFP didn't put so much stock in that, I'm not sure where Cincy would be ranked, around #10? And this is for beating an Irish team that has been very favorably ranked by the committee, a team that was very lucky not to be 1-3 going in to the Cincy game, and has "righted the ship" after that loss mainly by feasting on cupcake competition, with one more cupcake to munch coming up.

There is definitely a lot of football left to be played. Cincy's great advantage is that, compared to all the top contenders save for Notre Dame, their remaining schedule is very soft, as it has been all year. They are far less likely to lose than the other contenders are.

RE: CFP Rankings 11/23 - Out of excuses or new reason to leave out Cincy?
I have to say, if Okie State wins out, beating 2 top 10 teams back to back is clutch. Personally, I do think they will jump Cincy. The committee simply took a baby step and had a G5 in the top 4 for a few weeks. It was enough of a pacifier for G5 fans, rightfully or wrongfully. Now Cincy becomes P5 in a few years...... and we can wait until 2030 for the next baby step to be taken if no major change with the CFP. Hopefully expansion happens to end this nonsense.
