Marshall fans: Coming to WKU vs Marshall game Nov 27th
Hey Herd, need some recommendations for restaurants, breweries, bars, and hotel for the trip to Huntington. First time to the campus and town. Been on my list for a while, figured I better get it in while we are conference mates.

Also, what sections are for the away team?

Visitors are section 101 and 103.

As for places to eat. Depends on a lot of factors I suppose. Are you coming down the night before or the day of? Are you wanting to just stay close to the stadium and tailgating scene if its the day of?

Will either come the night before or stay the night of. Ideally a Huntington staple.

Get ready for a crapstorm of opinions. Honestly if you wanna stick to the stadium just go to Fat Patty's. Locals find it overrated but if you've never been there you'll enjoy the variety of burgers and full bar. If you willing to go a few blocks off campus try the Alehouse or the Herd Hall of Fame cafe. Both will fit your needs. Anything else is just somebody telling you what they like.

There are lots of upgraded and new hotels within a few blocks to ten miles from campus. Just do a search for availability and any of them should be great. Traffic can be a little wonky on game day but nothing like big cities at rush hour. The streets are all gridded like coordinates so it's to find your way around. 1250 3rd Ave would be between 12th and 13th St on 3rd Avenue, etc, and it's all numbered that way where you would likely be.

Huntington has a lot of nice restaurants actually. I'm sure others will throw out other suggestions, but being a sports fan and all, I would suggest the Marshall Hall of Fame Cafe. I think every school should have one of these types of restaurants. It's located down near the Pullman Square area with shopping and other restaurants.

What are you looking for in a restaurant? Some places are great but may be tiny or have limited to no TVs, other places have average to good food but have lines of sports being shown.

The one bar that is an absolute must visit is “The Summit”. It has one of the best beer selections in the state and is about a block away from the major hotels near Pullman Square. You’ll most likely want to stay at one of these hotels (Double Tree or Delta, someone will have to clarify but I believe both hotels have been renovated recently)

Looking for a nicer dinner, no Tvs. I'm in for the Summit. Any good breweries?

Main on Central in Barboursville just outside of town, Basketball coach owns it, Dantoni. Upscale restaurant, very nice place for dinner, best place in the area to eat, including Charleston. Can get pricey, but you get what you pay for, you won't regret it.

Hotel: Fairfield Inn and Suites, take an Uber and get dropped off at the stadium, best bang for your buck hotel IMO

Food:

Breakfast: Tudors on 16th St., order a Thundering Herd w/ side of gravy to dip it in and a Mountain Dew…I never eat this bad or drink Mt. Dew any other time—-but it’s the perfect combo here.

Lunch: won’t need it, breakfast will keep you full

Dinner: I’d head to Taste of Asia, damn good Hibachi and Sushi, and green Buddha shaped bottles of beer, if you really want fancy then 21 Fredrick?

Tips are from me, a Huntington native who’s lived away from Huntington for a long time—these are my spots when I’m in town and never let me down.

Other good food;

Big Loafer at the Huntington Mall, order a pizza roll and a pepperoni roll and split them half and half with your travel partner, they’re delicious every time for the last 30+ years

Hillbilly Hot Dogs never disappoints and is a neat experience, WV Dog is where it’s at here

Jim’s Spaghetti, coffee and coconut cream pie after a plate of spaghetti here and you’ll be set

Jewel City Seafood, just for reference most of my family now lives in coastal towns and have for a good while, they all like the seafood here

Nicer selections in the downtown area would be 21 at the Frederick, Le Bistro, The Cellar Door, and Savannah’s. Rocco’s Ristorante in Ceredo is worth the short drive and is a staple to the area for Italian. Assuming you’re on Facebook, I would check each of these places on there to see what’s to your liking because in some cases the menus can frequently change.

Not much in the way of breweries currently. The Peddler brews a few beers in house, but that’s mostly it as far as I know. There is a new brewery operation that intends to open in the next few years, but most of the currently running in state breweries are located elsewhere.

As islandherd mentioned: just be sure to get Tudor’s Biscuit World if you haven’t had it. Ask for melted cheese instead of a slice. It’s the perfect game day starter.

21 At the Fredrick on 4th Ave between 9th and 10th Streets is DEFINITELY the way to go for a nicer dinner.

Someone else will have better information than I do, but general advice: walk around the west lot of the stadium and just be courteous, say hi to people and ask how they’re doing, and I’m sure someone will eventually offer you a beer before too long. If you go out this evening start up conversation with people around you, some of them might be going to the game and can offer advice too.

Galojah, if you walk around the west lot, you'll probably be approached by our fans first thanking you for coming to Huntington with beer in hand for you.

WKU and MTSU are probably the best rivalries Marshall had in CUSA, it's a shame to see these end. Hope WKU fans have a great time in Huntington, just not so great they leave seeing their team win. 04-cheers
