Why should they jump at all? If you are truly the sixth best team in the country, and you beat a team ranked behind you, isn't that what you are supposed to do? If you are #8 and you beat #6, shouldn't you pretty much just swap places?
If nobody higher than you loses, and you jump over them this week, the voter is saying he was just wrong last week. So why should we believe him this week?
There shouldn't be any polls taken until January, when we have a better idea who is good and who isn't.

By that logic, the preseason poll becomes sacred and everyone stays static unless they lose.
If school A defeats school B, who is also ranked and regarded as a tough team, then they should jump schools ahead of them who’ve played weaker schedules to date.
A team’s ranking should be based upon their actual body of work rather than relying upon where they were ranked the week before as a fixed data point for where they should be the next.
