I wouldn't mind tearing down Bowman, Satterfield, and the Business Admin building. Attending classes in those buildings was miserable.

Great idea, but … keep in mind state will only fund projects that involve
Classroom or lab construction. No arenas , no concert venues that are not also classrooms. So to tear them down state would have to agree to new .

Existing buildings they will pay for maintenance, HVAC , new roofs etc.

Of course if you are Ohio State the legislature does whatever you ask.

If you are Ohio State the whole damned state, including all the media outlets, does whatever you ask.

Putting an arena there would be a bonus. I just want them knocked down for how poorly designed they are. Bowman has the best layout but the classrooms are out dated. The first time I had a class in the BA building I ended being late trying to figure out the layout.

Boy, that JAR is really awful. UA fought and begged for years for a new facility to replace that awful Memorial Hall, and they had to settle for that. Memorial Hall was an improvement over what they had before, though. When I was about 7 years old my dad took me to a game. They played at the Akron Armory off campus then.

McDowell and Beall badly need to be rehabbed. They seem to be much worse than most of the older dorms and much, much worse than the Centennial Courts.

My personal belief is that most architecture from the 60s sucks, which I think would cover Beall, McDowell, Satterfield, Bowman and the Business Administration Building.

I always thought that it would be pretty cool if they turned the top 3 or 4 floors of the library into dorm rooms. Last time I was in the library a few years ago there was a lot of empty space up there. The views from up there are pretty good and they could charge a premium for them.

My only fear would be fire. I was at Kent when McDowell caught on fire twice in three years. That was a little scary. My friend and I were coming back from a party in Akron (his brother went there) and flames were shooting out the 7th floor windows. If I remember correctly, it was a result of fireworks wars through the bathroom between suite mates.

Not the brightest bulbs in the room, I'd say.

Damn! I was also living in McDowell at that time and didn’t realize that’s what set it off. Dumba$$es!

What I'm hearing everyone say is we need to schedule 4 or 5 P5 games a year for the next decade to rebuild the whole campus?

Why stop there? Let’s go Independent and take 12 payday games a year, 13 if we also get Hawaii to beat up on us. We could be like the Washington Generals, but making mad bank. 02-13-banana

Paygame solution. Be like the 31 year old Female who sold farts in a mason jar and made 200k and then spun that money into the NFT world.

On a serious note, Keep waiting for the next "big donor" to come hasn't really worked out. Time to think outside the box (Crypto, NFTs, Metaverse, etc), but still be open to the big donor as well.

Well, there were two fires, onewas in 1989 and the other was 1992 or so. It was the 89 fire that was fireworks.

I found a link for the Daily Kent Stater article:

60’s were bad but the building by the Kent State airport is a real gem too

Jim. I really appreciate this comment and want to put in my two cents.
If there are ,or were , big donors out there , the Athletic Dept would find a way to piss them off and drive them away. Since Laing retired donors of all sizes are an afterthought, they are not appreciated or valued. In my humble view this has continued with the new AD and his staff.
They are incapable of securing even a modest donation without offending the donors.
Some of the comments that have been made are nasty, biased and just ignorant. Small minds with no clue what it takes to “friend-raise” and
motivate alumni , corporations or others to donate. Even the President has been known to alienate potential donors with disparaging remarks.
My wife and I have greatly scaled back our estate planned giving to KSU .
It’s now going elsewhere where we trust it will be used per our instructions and appreciated.

Playing 12 P5 games per year is a great suggestion. It’s the only way the Athletic dept can raise money. BTW. Tickets sales and seat licenses ?? , how’s that going. LOL.

Older - I’m with you. I once considered myself at least an average annual donor to KSU Athletics until the former AD drove us away about five years ago. You would think the FIRST thing a new AD would have done is reach out and try and repair all those damaged relationships. That hasn’t happened. He (and the fundraising department) have shown their incompetence in this regard and instead are simply waiting on a white knight.

I’m also in the same boat. IMO the last AD was so focused on bagging the big whale the smaller donors were taken for granted. I’ve said a million times, if you donate $50 im going to reach out, make you feel valued and try and get you to double down to $100. If you donate $200 im going to try to get you up to say $500 and on and on and on…I don’t need my @$$ kissed, I don’t mind donating and would increase my donation levels if I felt like it mattered.

Years ago I had many great interactions with people working in the department, but sadly most of them were driven out and are working elsewhere and the new staff just don’t see the same. I was also hoping the new AD would jump right in with new ideas and firing on all cylinders, but I'm not seeing it. You’d think when you’re conducting those interviews you’re getting the candidates to answer those questions on how they’re going to boost donations and what vision they have for facilities, but again I guess not.

Jim and Hammer. Great comments , we are on the same page.
Fundraising people they tossed aside or who left on their own are doing very well elsewhere. Three in particular are with huge non-profits in CLE and doing just great. Obviously it was not them , it was the system at KSU. We give to their institutions and the interactions are professional and perfectly handled. They are very attentive.
As I stated earlier , Donors are an afterthought at KSU. This attitude has been demonstrated from the top down.
I will give them credit for Crawford donation for Business School
but we have heard the donor really pursued KSU. Great donation but it was donor driven we’ve heard.
Tired quote but “it is what it is” and I’m afraid change is not in our future .

RE: Future Football Schedules
I've never been financially fortunate enough to be anything but among the smallest of small donors. But I'm in my 59th year of being a fan and observer of all things Kent State, and I can say that I'm in agreement with pretty much everything that has been said. A friend who is no longer with us and I used to talk about these things off and on over the decades and it had always seemed to us that there has always been a kind of a hubris, for lack of a better word. Of course, it varied depending on the president and AD, but in general it too often seemed that the university's efforts in so many areas, especially in athletics, was merely perfunctory.
