I remember back in the day when we were losing to Youngstown State. With our usual 3 bodybag/payday games we need to make sure our 1 OOC game is a win but also counts if we wish to be in the hunt for a bowl game.

PS: nice additions to the 2024 schedule with Pitt and Tennessee.

Yeah, that was sickening losing games to YSU, and to Akron when they were 1-AA. A win against an FCS team counts towards bowl eligibility, but only one per season.
You’re right, my bad, being a KSU booster means I’m not as up on the bowl criteria as I should be. I was thinking the FCS wins only counted every second year.

Going to be a tough year attendance-wise once again, at least we get Summit County Correctional Facility at home. Only 5 home games, we get a program like LIU, then Ohio, TSDTR before hosting BallsTate and EMU on a November Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hopefully we picked up a more fans from our success last year. If they are smart, and work with the Alumni Assoc, they will put homecoming on 10/1. The Roo game will bring a crowd itself, so get a reason to bring fans out early in Oct for a conference game. I doubt OU will travel well this year. The November games will also depend a lot on the weather.

You all are aware so called Alumni Assoc.is no more .
It was pretty awful before but now decimated .
Alumni Assoc was blended in with Philanthropy Development group .
At other Universities Alumni groups build support and “friend raise “
This is no longer the case at KSU it’s all about getting us to donate.
Donating should be the final step in a process to engage alumni , get them involved , back to campus and enthusiastic.

Pretty unique, time will tell. All I know is we are “lifetime”
members that outlived the alumni association.

RE: Future Football Schedules
Kent State has played 3 Power 5 games annually since 2018,
Using the money as a major source of funding
for the entire athletic Dept.

“Ideally we would like to get away from that model “ said Richmond .
“However there are some sizable financial hurdles we have to overcome”

From todays R/C and Alan Moff

That about says it all. Drive away boosters and donors by
Considering them unimportant and play Ohio State to compensate.

Great plan.

That plan's definitely not on Richmond. Kind of encouraging he says he wants to get away from that model. I'll believe it when I see it but hey, stranger things have happened... The Guardians signed a homegrown superstar to a long term extension.

Somewhat agree Anti-Zip but everything since July IS on
Randale. He has the ability to change the past and correct
many of the deeds of his predecessor. Budget woes
will take time to correct . Other things he could have
easily reversed he has not. (Jeff Kurtz, Ty Lindor, alumni/donor
engagement, removal of HOF and All-American plaques,
and disrespect for History of KSU Athletics all fixable but
so far ignored)

I certainly think that is on the Tweeter in Charge. His first duties were resigning Coach Lewis and Coach Sendy and aren’t their salaries tied to the money game payouts?

Not following exactly what is Richmond's fault. Are you saying he should've not extended Sendy and Lewis (two coaches that just took the two most visible sports to the MAC championship game)? As for incentives, I believe they also have incentives based on wins which makes it a balancing act.
With basketball I would actually like to see us schedule a little tougher.

In general I don't know enough about the interworking of the department or the finances to have a strong opinion similar to how I felt about Nelson. But from the outside looking in, Richmond took over a department that had several years (10ish maybe) worth of depending on three football money games and we just had a year (2020) where we didn't get any. I can't imagine it would be realistic to expect them to cut that back to 2 already. I'm encouraged that he said he wants to cut it back. Assuming that's not just lip service hopefully he'll be able to get there.

Resigning those two was great. But I was clearly speaking of the plan to continue taking $$ for bodybag football games instead of scheduling a home OOC game or one with a reasonable chance to compete.

Removal of HOF and AA plaques? Can someone expand on this statement?

RE: Future Football Schedules
Several points here:

1/ Many schools including Toledo, NIU, and TSDTR also referred to as NORKA ,
have scheduled 2 for 1 football games with power 5 schools . They go to
the Power 5 school twice and Power 5 school (example KENTUCKY) goes to MAC school once . Little or no money is exchanged.
We don’t do that. Last Power 5 school I recall us playing at home was Minnesota. Good weather -abysmal attendance.

2/HOF and All-America wood and brass plaques located upstairs in MAAC
we’re all removed and disposed of. My understanding recipients were told they could pick up or pay shipping if they wanted them .
HOF names are now simply printed on a wall on first floor of MAAC . Totally
disrespectful. Athletic Dept has a new “star” known as “Director of creative solutions” or something similar who came up with this brainstorm.

Personally, I have attended games in many of the shrines of college basketball including Pauley Pavilion, Cameron Indoor, Allen Fieldhouse, McArthur Court,Palestra etc . Certainly not comparing MAAC to these but, we have shown little regard for our history and legacy with these changes.
Other schools very respectfully honor their history and Athletes and it’s a pleasure to walk thru buildings and see the shrines.
KSU has been disrespectful to our former student Athletes at the least, and simply uncaring in respecting our sports legacy.

As a booster that annually writes checks to Athletics we are finished.
Athletes that gave us so much excitement and pleasure with their
accomplishments should not be discarded and honored with writing on a wall. Shameful.

Wow. I had not heard this. That is absolutely pathetic. Any clue what the rationale was? What are they using that room for that they couldn't remain?
Not sure when this happened or on whose watch, but that is just short sighted.

How on earth does anyone justify tossing those items aside? Doesn’t cost anything, space was already allocated for it, all you have to do is leave it alone. We should have a special area where recruits get paraded through to see the rich history and the respect bestowed upon the elite, instead they get nothing.

Hammer: Exactly. I have discussed with several KSU coaches and they expressed your exact words. It’s motivation , goal setting and respectful of our athletes. Problem is those making decisions act impulsively with NO input from those of us that have been around 50 years plus, attending events. ,donating and interacting with our great student athletes.

When did this happen? Was this a Nielsen decision or a Richmond decision?

Hall of Fame “walls” were installed late Dec of 21. However removal of
HOF plaques , All-Americans, and Endowment Donors was begun in
early fall. Plaques were distributed to locals. Others had to pay shipping if they wanted. Endowment donor wall now exists with many omissions.
We have not returned to MAAC since and likely will never return .
This was all enacted under new AD, Long after Joel departed.
