Does ESPN hate LA Tech?
Let’s be honest, we all know ESPN is driving the entire realignment of the G5. If they tell the AAC, Sun Belt, or MAC to take a certain team or group of teams, it will happen.

When you look at LA Tech, you have football success, basketball success, and baseball success over a period of several years. Yet as we see everything come together, it looks like Tech will be left out in the cold. I know there are hard feelings from the Sun Belt history. But what did Tech do that ESPN would leave them out?

Guessing their ratings aren't worth anything. That's what is driving all of the realignment.

I doubt that ESPN thinks about LA Tech at all. Pushing northward into the Virginias likely just had more growth potential than tripling down on Louisiana (and ESPN already has LSU and Tulane on top of the SB too).

No they don't "hate" La Tech. La Tech's problem is they don't reside in a metro area making them pretty much a non-starter to the AAC and that they've been so toxic for decades with the Sun-Belt (specifically UL and most of all ULM) that there's a lot of Sun-Belt leaders who are fine leaving them to rot even though they'd make perfect sense on paper to add.

Probably one of the biggest losers in realignment history along with UTEP, as far as middling to bottom FBS schools are concerned. I thought they were strongest Louisiana school athletically behind LSU for some time, well ahead of Tulane. Was not to be...

I think it hurts that their $23 million athletic budget is the third-lowest in FBS. Only Northern Illinois at $22 million and Louisiana-Monroe at $15 million are lower.

I'd say from 35 years ago until now- they're right up there with Southern Miss and UTEP. And probably SMU and Rice.

ESPN doesn't hate LA Tech. ESPN doesn't think about LA Tech.

Individual administrators in the Sun Belt? THEY hate LA Tech

LOL - I started a thread embedding that tweet when it happened and was planning on bumping it as soon as CUSA was down to 3. Matt beat me to it (on twitter).

On the list of things La Tech has done to anger Sun-Belt schools that probably barely squeaks into the top 10. Normally it's just fans being fans and being arrogant towards schools they think are "below" them, but you can go all the way back to the formation of Sun-Belt football to find La Tech administrators thumbing their noses at it.

Well the one saving grace, Tommy McClelland left and is now the asst AD at Vandy. Eric Wood (shown below) is now the AD, he may be able to shed some of that baggage with a charm campaign, but it wont be easy to pass WKU who have a big leg up for a spot in the SBC should Marshall and ODU decide to stay.

Strangely, I don’t think it would have been too terrible an idea for MWC to tap UTEP and LaTech. Bring them back west.

RE: Does ESPN hate LA Tech?
They should play Oklahoma/Texas and Alabama 4 times a year as an independent and play 4-5 home games instead of 6-8 like the P5 schools, ha.

What a joke
