Just about any comedian from the 70s and 80s.... George Carlin, Robin Williams, Flip Wilson (who ironically dressed in drag on stage), Rodney Dangerfield, Andrew "Dice" Clay, Bill Hicks, Sam Kennison, etc.
The irony is many of them were liberals, in the classic since, but I imagine most would find themselves in a weird spot politically, perhaps like where Bill Maher has been lately finding the modern Left not being very liberal.
A couple of the old comics have flipped over... Dennis Miller, Richard Lewis, the late Jackie Mason, Andrew "Dice" Clay, Adam Carolla, and the recently departed Norm McDonald (the later two being 90s).
Oh man, your bring up some names from the past I haven't thought about in a while. I could only take so much of Sam Kennison because he screamed everything, but he was funny. I'd like to think Carlin, Dangerfield, and Clay would take the Chapelle route and tell the SJws to fak off.
One thing I have noticed about many of these comedians are they are free speech absolutists. Carlin disagreed with conservatives on most issues politically, but he would have found “safe spaces” and any sort of censorship, even if he disagreed, unacceptable.
To use a parallel to societies from long ago, you know a kingdom is tyrannical when the Court Jester can’t make fun of the Emperor/King and the Senate (in our government both the House and Senate).
