Wouldn’t 9 league games pretty much guarantee that you play the other division teams more frequently?

That would put you playing 3 every year. So if my math is correct, the longest you would go without playing every team is three years.

1 or 2 P5 money game
1 or 2 G5 games if your school is against FCS games
1 FCS home game

Would that make scheduling kinda easier?

If Troy moves West, there will be no need for Fixed rivalries in football...There won't be a single game with enough history to make it worth it.

Instead there will be a much bigger focus on Divisional rivalries and you probably will see a bunch of those games stacked near the end of the schedule...

App State - Louisiana?

How about this, every off-season, those "rivalry" match-ups are evaluated based on fan interest and the projection of the participating teams. Rather than a model or software, just do some good old fashioned research.

I'll admit I hate losing Georgia Southern's game each season but there is no way having any protected rivalry would be good for conference play. Seems like App and stAte would like to see each other a lot since their admin's are close.

I know we won't and we shouldn't but I wonder what cross-divisional locked games *could be*...

GaSo vs Troy
App State vs A-State
GaSt vs USA
Southern Miss-Marshall
Louisiana-Coastal
ULM-ODU/JMU
Texas State-ODU/JMU

I want App to play Louisiana every year. The game has got to a point where "it just means more". If Louisiana is down, we can go back to beating them 63-10 and that will be just fine.

No need for a permanent crossover or a 9th conference game.

For basketball, it might make sense to play everyone once, and then determine the final few match ups based on record thus far, so the higher RPI teams get to face off an additional time.

Does anyone currently do 9 conference games? Doesn't that always leave half the teams with 5 home games and half with 7? Unless you play 3 ooc home games or 3 ooc away games each year to make up for it.

Not sure why a few people want this. What is the benefit?

If JMU fans had a vote I think we'd say stick to 8 conference games - a big plus for FBS in our eyes is the OOC schedule we could create with 4 games. 8 conference games also allows for a bit less travel.

Why not 20 conference games for basketball? 7 H/H with 6 division foes and 1 with a cross division. Then 3 home, 3 away with the other division.

I think ODU would be against 20 conference games. I think we do 18 in C-USA right now. 20 increases the number of games against probably low RPI teams and I think we'd rather have those 2 to schedule ourselves

Makes sense. 3 cross division road games is two trips anyways. Might as well make it two games. It makes little sense to make a single trip to Jonesboro or ODU.

The basketball coaches themselves will make decisions about the basketball schedule. I think it is a given to play division teams home and home. That’s 12 games. How to schedule cross division games is the question.Maybe play 6 of them—3 home and 3 away. 1 cross division team you would not play

I don’t like the idea of sometimes catching 5 away conference games and 4 home...even more so without a neutral site championship game. You could have a team playing on the road for their 6th conference Road game against a team playing their 6 home game and considering you will be missing 4 teams in the other division it could make for a really lopsided situation
