Apparently the Texas schools got the WAC commissioner pushed out a few months ago

I feel like I defend McLeod way too much for someone I couldn't identify without a little Jeep under her, but I don't think anyone behind the commissioner's desk could have done too much differently, other than perhaps be more outward and aggressive in public. Otherwise, the last guy cratered our relations with ESPN, there's only so much a conference front office can do to make struggling teams not struggle, and there's no reasonable way to keep a school from making what it thinks is a move up, any more than it was reasonable to expect Aresco to keep schools from going to the Big 12.

The answer might be obvious but everyone is doing what's best for them and what works for one school might not work for other or at least how they envision it now anyway. I know i hate to miss UTEP but i think it might serve better for them to find a conference close to western setup. This Mess is inevitable and we all have to deal it one day or another.
Pretty much. Which is why I don't understand all the vitriol among teams. But it seems most of it revolves around a core of current sunbelt teams and LaTech. Those guys just simply hate one another.

If they were smart, both sides would monetize it and make LT the big bad interloper that everyone in the region wants to keep in their place. If this were wrestling, they'd be the top heel. A cocky bunch of bastards who can't believe they're lowering themselves to play in the rodeo rings and livestock pens of Troy, Monroe and Lafayette. Make that bad blood work for you!

These posts are becoming sad to read. If the AAC would have invited Marshall your admin would have been all over it. If the SB comes calling you had better take it because I believe ODU, WKU, and others would. CUSA has to be in full on panic mode right now. Their letter to the AAC pretty much was that.

As for Charlotte being dead weight, Marshall and their many years of prestigious football has a one game advantage in head to head play. If you look at the current standings Charlotte is that school listed just above yours in 1st. Not bad for a starter program with the smallest stadium.

Who knows if teams like Charlotte and the Texas schools made the right decision by leaving for the AAC. However, I would much rather be talking about how do we succeed in the new AAC than how do we succeed in the new CUSA. CUSA leadership may surprise me and pull in some heavy hitters, but everything that I have seen doesn't lead me to believe that will happen.

Other than what UAB and FAU have recently accomplished, the loss of Charlotte and the Texas schools, at least for those of us in the East it was a blessing. Charlotte in all honesty should have never been invited to C-USA in the first place. But you reside in a big city that was supposed help us get a good tv contract. That didn’t happen. And it wasnt just Charlotte, it was FIU, North Texas, UTSA. Nothing was gained by adding these schools 10 years ago. So it seems almost like a wrong has been mostly righted with these schools leaving.

You are partially correct that Marshall would/should have moved to Aac if invited. But if the group we would have went with was all the Texas schools. I wouldn’t have been excited. But UAB, FAU, Marshall, and another winner East if Texas, I would have been all in. But now that the aac has picked most of the schools that should have never been invited to C-USA, as I stated to open the thread, if JUDY is fired, then I would rather stay where we are.

I'm actually surprised UNC-Charlotte is following through given the other schools going and given anything worth going to that conference along with the media money will be gone before they take a single snap. But I guess UNC-Charlotte is used to bad decisions and changing conferences every few years. The AAC managed to relieve us of almost everything I hate about this conference. I do wish they'd gotten both of the FUs. Maybe the other will join the Belt to backfill App State and Coastal.

There has been confusion in the past about the exit fees. Its been confirmed that teams are required to give 18 months notice, and the exit fee is equal to 2 years worth of conference distributions. The process was the same with the schools that left in 2012 and 2013 for the AAC, but rather than the schools having to cut a check, they will withhold the conference distributions for 2021 and 2022 from the departing members. So for this year and next, C-USA distributions will be split 8 ways rather than 14 (or 6 ways if 2 other schools provide notice to leave).

I am curious whether you think that the CUSA media partners will exercise anything in the contracts to cut the payments to CUSA because of the six schools leaving? Everybody seems to think that is a standard clause in all the contracts, and that ESPN will be doing it to the AAC. For the six leaving, if we are forfeiting the next two years payout I guess it doesn't matter to us what that number is, but to the members that are left a change could be significant.

The biggest reason I like the move is that ECU makes a better rivalry for us than ODU.

Use that to lure a shiny new qualified commissioner, and throw the bag at App State and Coastal Carolina.

How much did you get with the last round of defections? Millions right? BS! If past precedent is any indication USM won’t pay a dime. They are a founding member.

Fire Judy first and you might have something.

But how many of the other defections are founding members?

UAB and Charlotte are the other founding members (well Charlotte did have that period where they left and then came back, but they still helped found the conference)

Wasn’t Tulane a founding member of the SEC?
