F Temple and F Philadelphia. Philadelphia pizza is an abomination against all that is good and holy and the city and it’s inhabitants shall burn for all eternity as a result

I went up there for the NCAA game vs Kentucky in 2011.

What a **** hole.

A city whose haute cuisine consists of a steak-umm sandwich covered in cheese wiz and their hero is a mythical boxer suffering from CTE.

I assume you're being facetious about our cuisine.

03-lmfao I myself have never been to the City of Brotherly Love, so I have no opinion... although, believe it or not, there is a place here in Birmingham (the name unfortunately escapes me, but someone else here probably knows...I think it's in Homewood somewhere) that has been named by a few sources as having the Best Philly CheeseSteak in the U.S. (...world, I guess?) ...guess I need to do more research on that... ...anyway, as for myself, looking forward to going up against the Owls of the Temple variety in the future! 04-rock

We have one of the best restaurant scenes in the country. Highlands would be a 3rd tier place. Anyone who thinks we're just cheesesteaks has never been here. Also, roast pork is the king. Cheesesteaks are for tourists.

cool - the Ham has become quite the 'food destination' city as well... just don't believe those Memphis folks when they start barking about their superior barbecue... we've got them beat! 04-rock02-13-banana05-stirthepot

:

Philly truly does have a rich boxing history. It's also the home of two of the greatest champs ever, Bernard Hopkins and Smokin' Joe Frazier.

You think pizza is bread dough covered in sweet tomato sauce with maybe a light sprinkle of Romano cheese.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I think you're talking about tomato pie, which I've never even had, and isn't something that most places even serve.

Salem's Diner is probably what you're thinking of. Late night host Craig Ferguson mentioned it on his show as the best Philly Cheese Steak he ever had. I've never had one in Philly so I can't compare, but the one at Salem's was delicious.

There is crime and there is inhumanity. Birmingham has a crime problem. What happened in Philadelphia goes beyond crime. That's some twisted Escape From New York ****. Would a train car full of Southerners sit and watch that happen? Record it? I know this one wouldn't. Not one person called 911. Just confirms my previous opinion of Philly. **** hole.

If you're riding the El at 11 PM on a weekday to Upper Darby, you're going to find nothing but trouble. We have plenty of crime, but that's not somewhere tourists are going.

yepyepyep... I remember parking right in front of it as my wife stopped in to the next door place - O'Carr's - to get Chicken Salad - and I saw Salem's info about that... I'll have to hit that one day for sure... 04-rock ...and IIRC as a kid, there was a place called Ed Salem's drive-thru, which was somewhere not too far from the new stadium - actually in the Red Mtn. Expressway / 20/59 interchange area, where they had to move for that... I reckon it's the same folks.

So 125 homicides in a city of just over 200k people is simply crime? Murder in and of itself is not inhumane? I'm not going to get into politics, but whether violent crime happens in a tourist spot or in certain "communities" doesn't matter. Total disregard of human life is the same and it doesn't matter who the perpetrator is or who the victim is.

Btw, do not take this as a knock on the city of Birmingham. I believe people who consider the city as as whole to be "dangerous" are completely ignorant. Ive spent time in nearly every neighborhood in Birmingham and have personally never had a negative experience. But the ugly truth and facts can not be ignored.

The crime and just disintegration of community is on a wholly different scale than you would find in say Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, and yes Birmingham.

The crime itself on the train in Philly was terrible and that does happen in Birmingham. But it was the indifference and even spectator like behavior of the by standers that made it a national story. People in cities like Philly are becoming numb to violence and crime. I hope that never happens here.
