I'm guessing I'm not alone as a Coastal fan in saying that all I know is that La Tech shunned the old conference members and maybe flipped them the bird on the way out the door. But the amount of hate against them is amazing. It seems to be the single thing this conference can easily bond over with everyone on board.

So what else did they do? Are their fans just that bad? Do they kick puppies for fun? Does anyone have a good breakdown of the nasty divorce so new conference members can catch up? I want in.

All of the above. They are too “elite” to be associated with the Warhawks or Cajuns or anyone in the SBC for that matter and doesn’t help they stayed home from a bowl in 2012 instead of playing ULM.

They were part of the original discussion to start SBC Football (were an SBC member at the time) Left and made a big deal on their way out that they were toto good to play in the SBC in football. Joined the WAC, than tried to coax North Texas to join them and kill off the SBC.

Thankfully FIU/FAU/Troy/ULM accelerated their move up timelines and kept us afloat.

In my limited experience with La Tech fans, I love them. If we add 4, I hope La Tech is one of them.

This is the meat and potatoes I was after. I knew they'd have to have done something over the top to piss of an entire conference, and now it makes sense. So the leaving part is no big deal, but trying to steal other conference members away just so you can kill a conference because you think you're too good for it?

I don’t hate them anymore but they do have some very arrogant fans. I can’t find it in myself to be mad at a bunch of 18-22 year old young adults who choose to go there. I will see pride comes before the fall though.

A program like LA Tech has got a great big hole, right in the middle of them. They can never kill enough, or steal enough, or inflict enough pain to ever fill it. Sad really.

My favorite La Tech story.

2001 season

WAC has two bowl ties Humanitarian in Boise and Silicon Valley in San Jose.
Sun Belt has one NOLA

Tech wins WAC, Boise and Fresno tie for second with Boise holding tie-breaker.

UNT wins tiebreaker in SBC at 5-6 over 8-3 MTSU who had beaten Vandy.

WAC was trying to keep their bowls happy because Silicon wanted Fresno and Boise wanted Boise but Tech has to be placed.

SBC wants MTSU placed.

Deal is struck, Colorado State the MWC team set for NOLA would be traded to Silicon to face Fresno, Tech would go to NOLA to face UNT, and MTSU would go to Boise to play Boise.

Tech balked. In the meantime, Silicon in dire financial straits jumps the gun and invites Fresno, so Tech has to be placed in Boise and Boise State and MTSU get left out of bowls as Michigan State goes to San Jose and Clemson goes to Boise.

That boys and girls is how Boise last missed a bowl game, screwed over by a conference mate.

It's not the students or even most of the fans. It's a certain group of boosters that have historically dictated the entire program (see 2012 bowl season). And yes, for that group pride is more important than survival.
