Sparse ODU Football Attendance Discussion

What we are going through now really could have happened 10 years ago but I don't think fans are willing to sit through the process.
A casual fan doesn't have the patience to sit through 8 seasons to experience a winning season. Same goes for family and extended family members who would tag along if the teams are doing good. Most of the Alum would probably stick around but lets not kid ourselves in this day and age when a lot of things are competing for the entertainment dollar its a long shot. Lets also not pretend like those 4/5 win seasons are meaningful if those wins are also against some other struggling teams like us. They should've canned Bobby sooner which they didn't and then we didn't play last year which i understand but did no good to us. Its unreasonable for the admin to expect a casual fan to show up and stay put in the seat while we parade a terrible product but Alumni i expect them to stay through thick and thin after all they are frigging alums.
Winning is a factor for sure but our games are also boring and no excitement. We weren’t great when we joined the league either, but at least we had TH and an offense that could score. Could get away with ugly smash mouth football if we are winning 6-3 games. Maybe it’ll happen in time but looking across the scoreboard week after week and you just don’t see those kinds of scores anymore. Not even someone like Clemson with all their advantages can pull it off. Pretty much the same on the basketball side. Can get away with ugly when you are a top 50 team winning or knowing you have a chance to win big games and there is some personality. And yes, playing against schools nobody cares about is also a factor.

CUSA.
That's just App State doing what they do. That stadium would look like that if there was a CUSA opponent playing them tonight also.

They are a perennial winner with several conference championships. It would look like that if they played a 6 am on a Monday.

Also there is no drama. I remember thinking we always had a chance to beat anyone. NC state, UNC, App… whoever. Now, I feel like the outcome is usually pre determined and it’s an L. The crowds will return when we start showing we can win the big games again. I’m confident of that.

Attendance is down because we aren’t playing Troy and Texas State.

maybe the fire rahne thread isn't a joke like most hoped.
They would be members of the western divison of who we would only play twice a year. Marshall, App, Coastal, both GSUs and 1 of JMU/WKU would all be teams we have heard of and the exception of Coastal who have played before.

Yeah. The East division, the teams we would routinely play, would have a significantly smaller footprint than our current one, which tracks all the way to Florida.
It also has teams we have history with, like Georgia Southern

We beat NSU then played georgia southern. Then played georgia southern again the next year. Maybe CCU was in there but I don't remember it.

WE beat Coastal in the playoffs. I think it was Heinickes soph season. Something like 64-35.

cool. So we would have history with every team in the eastern division.
