Seemed like Rice a Roni was improving last season but I guess we ripped their hearts out. This week is same as last, UAB's biggest opponent is over-confidence.

I want to move to the AAC anyway but the Rice talk is a bit of a buzzkill. I know they are a great school but they just don't care about sports. They've had like a century to make a commitment and it hasn't happened. If I was the AAC, I would want something on paper for a certain level of financial commitment from them.

I see no reason they couldn't be as good Tulsa, SMU, Tulane or any of the other similar private schools if they made a serious commitment to winning in the revenue sports. Olympic sports are already good.

Rice is trying to play a physical style like us and UTSA, but they don't have the personnel to do it and will have a hard time ever recruiting it. Stanford could do that because they're in the Pac-12. All I see them getting with that is more of the same -- couple of Wins over people they should beat, maybe an upset or two, a couple of close we're-getting-there losses and then 2-3 blowout losses per year, including at least one to a team they should have had a chance to beat.

Will Hopkins play this week? You never want to look past an opponent, but this might be a good week to sit him going into our bye if he isn't 100%.

We are 23 point favorites.

I really want to see us come out and smash somebody and then get LOTS of reps for young players. Going into an open date with the biggest games ahead, let’s put in a sharp performance.

Rice has a freshman DL that played at Jasper High School. No idea if UAB looked at him, but it would have been nice to keep the local guys.
