See we spent all this money on a coach from Stanford as well as convinced someone to build the EZF. We have been supportive, can't you tell? And despite all that we get this, so it's best just to go DIII. And you know what, those athletes pay their way as there are no scholarships, a new revenue source- so awesome. And we need that area at the stadium for other important stuff so football can just share with the soccer team.

This performance tonight (0-45, 102 yards and -14 points of offense) is exactly how I would have expected our game with Alabama to go. We literally made UTSA look like Alabama - absolute and utter domination. I've never said this before but, yeah, we've got to fire Mike Bloomgren.

Bring Back Coach Kidd.... former Rice player... 17 years as a Rice assistant.... deep connections to TX HS coaches since those 17 years were spent as a recruiting coordinator... then he can hire RUOwls as his OC.....they played together.

Brian Smith for interim head coach, and just let the offensive coordinator do what HE wants.

RE: Fire Mike Bloomgren
Ya kind'a have to figure an AD has a list of criteria for relieving a head coach, or any coach, of their duties. I would if I was in a position of leadership like that. But of course the AD at a place like Rice is probably under close rein to the president as well as the BOT. So he might have to check in with them to get a read on it first. But having to fire a coach early, before their contract term expires, reflects badly on the AD if he made the hire, especially if it is for cause. So there's likely a balance going on as to how long (assuming there will be a turn around some day soon) this kind of performance can continue versus how bad the AD looks having to fire his guy early. Having other successful programs (volleyball...) in the portfolio helps to mitigate the bad look on the AD if he fires his FB guy though.

Bloomgren needs more time to get his system in place. He hasn’t had a QB yet. Keeps having to find a guy in the portal. He’s a great guy and mentor to these young men. UTSA is a top tier program. I’m just not sure what you guys expected.

Here’s a question… does anyone on this board of passionate Rice supporters NOT want to fire Bloomgren and turn the temporary reins over to anyone but Bloomgren?

Edit: anyone on this board who has posted prior to today.

In year four, we should be as good as UTSA is right now.

Jeff Traylor turned UTSA around in two pandemic-impacted seasons.

Bloomgren went 3-9 in his second season.

Ok, I'll bite. Serious question: what are the signals you've seen in the last few years that make you think Bloomgren's system will eventually work?

RE: Fire Mike Bloomgren
I am sure he is a fine person and he might even be a good mentor to young men but he is not the head coach we need.

BLOOM'S RECORD:
Rice Owls (Conference USA) (2018–present)
2018 Rice 2–11 1–7 T–6th (West)
2019 Rice 3–9 3–5 T–4th (West)
2020 Rice 2–3 2–3 5th (West)
2021 Rice 2-4 1-1 (West)
Rice: 9–27 7–16
Total: 9–27

Where is the indication of improvement? This is now fully and completely his team, his recruits, his philosophy, his system..... and it is not working.

In a conference that pathetic doesn't even begin to describe it. Makes one pine for the magnificence of WAC 2.0

No disrespect, but you should expect to get some pushback on this statement. Since 2018, he has recruited and signed the following:
Wiley Green (Highschool signee)
Parker Towns (Highschool signee)
Jovoni Johnson (Highschool signee)
TJ McMahon (CC signee)
Shawqi Itraish (Highschool signee)
Jake Constantine ( GS signee)
Shawn Stankavage (GS signee)
Tom Stewart (GS signee)

I don't count McCaffery as he seems to have fallen into our lap.

So, either we have horrible luck, horrible evaluation skills in QBs, or severely lacking in QB development. Or...or, maybe our offensive scheme is the issue.

As for being a great guy and mentor, I don't doubt that aspect of his character nor do I in any way seek to diminish the importance. However, along those lines, David Bailiff excelled as a great guy and mentor. And he took Rice to 4 bowl games. Yet, many on this board felt that it was time for Bailiff to go. Put it this way, Bailiff was hired in 2007. In 2008, Rice was in the Texas Bowl with a roster of 2* recruits.

Again, no disrespect, but don't expect Bloomgren to get much more grace.

Hook line and sinker lol lol

Professionally speaking Bloom is a complete piece of garbage. Treats his players like trash. Clearly cannot coach football. Has absolutely no idea how to manage a football program. Clearly cannot recruit. His dumb butt should have had to Uber back to houston. Time to drop down to the FCS division or even D III and try and be competitive.
