Professionally speaking Bloom is a complete piece of garbage. Treats his players like trash. Clearly cannot coach football. Has absolutely no idea how to manage a football program. Clearly cannot recruit. His dumb butt should have had to Uber back to houston. Time to drop down to the FCS division or even D III and try and be competitive.

Not sure of your insight to Bloom's personal style with players, etc., nor do I seek to debate your comments. But, if true, it does cause me to wonder how much of the game underperformance, for lack of a better characterization, is due to players sabotaging the coaches?

RE: Fire Mike Bloomgren
Bloom is a good, smart FB guy who is connected and respected in FB circles. His knowledge of FB is not the problem.

But he is a square peg in a round hole at Rice. Just like Saban was a square peg in a round hole with the Dolphins.

Bloom needs to be on a headset in the NFL or on headset calling plays in P5, not trying to be the top guy trying to turn a fledgling D-1 program into relevance. The datapoints (including tonight) are now a body of work after many years on his watch w/ his guys, staff, etc..

Bloom is not the problem. He is the symptom. Root cause is deeper than that. Strategic philosophy problem with who hired him in first place on what is truly needed to bring relevance to the program.

From my knowledge I don’t think players would sabotage the coaches. What I do know from the locker room and meetings, it would be very difficult to go to battle for the man. I would lean more to self sabotage over player sabotage. I am sure he has a payoff incentive to be fired.

This is the 9th time in Bloomgren’s 34 games against FBS opponents that Rice has scored fewer than 10 points. He obviously can’t learn from his mistakes, a fatal flaw for a coach. So yeah, definitely (definitely!) ready to see Rice move on.

I hope Lebroon and Karlgard love to watch football in an empty stadium. Do it the Rice way and run the program into the ground before bringing in a new coach.

They don’t care about watching games in an empty stadium. Been doing it for awhile now. The program on crutches when Bailiff left. Bloomgren has been putting the nails in steadily for the last few years.

Somehow i do not believe LeeBron nor the Trustees do much about the AD other than to control the spending. I have no confidence in LeeBron, Kaarlgard, nor Bloomgren.

I would if I was in a position of leadership like that. But of course the AD at a place like Rice is probably under close rein to the president as well as the BOT. So he might have to check in with them to get a read on it first. But having to fire a coach early, before their contract term expires, reflects badly on the AD if he made the hire, especially if it is for cause. So there's likely a balance going on as to how long (assuming there will be a turn around some day soon) this kind of performance can continue versus how bad the AD looks having to fire his guy early. Having other successful programs (volleyball...) in the portfolio helps to mitigate the bad look on the AD if he fires his FB guy though.

By his fourth year, one would hope that Bloomgren would have Rice at the level of a top tier program, at least measured by CUSA standards.

This is the point that has worried me about "pound the rock" since Bloomgren first announced it. I don't think it is a good fit for the type of football players that Rice can recruit. I see two major needs that we really can't recruit:

1) The big strong offensive linemen that can pancake defensive linemen, and
2) The strong-armed, accurate pocket passer who can consistently drop back on third and 8 and hit receivers for first downs

I have expressed on here several times that 1) would be very difficult for Rice to recruit, but that I thought 2) might be even more difficult. So far, both have pretty much proved to be impossible.

I keep waiting for the press conference, but so far, it looks as if there's no change. Ed Orgeron will not be back for LSU next season, it was announced today. They've won a national championship, but aren't afraid to move on. But, we're content to stay with this loser.

LSU is shedding themselves of a Title IX liability. They've worked hard to keep that scandal out of the limelight, but they're also not letting bygones be bygones.

Whether they'd be making this $17M decision if they were winning is debatable (and I have no position on that counterfactual). I think it's safe to say that if you're going to be an *******, you have to be good, too, and even that strategy doesn't always work.

Why feel bad checking? You should feel bad that nothing has changed.

It's a joke of an athletic program at this point. Since athletics aren't an input into the pop culture phenom US News rankings, I doubt anything intelligent will happen with our athletic department within the next 2 decades.

Watching Rice football is like watching the baseball game from the movie Interstellar at this point. A diversion to placate old timers but devoid of meaning or consequence.

He has to be given every opportunity to win six games. Yes it looks bleak for him, but mathematically, it can happen.

They probably already have the buyout money in hand. Give him the rest of the season, and then get him the hell outta here. He has destroyed this program.

He's had since 2018 to do just that.....delaying the inevitable hurts us in recruiting... let him go now, name the new guy asap and let the kids know who the new sheriff is in town.

That's not right. After 3 1/2 years of this crap, six more weeks isn't going to matter much.

Sorry my friend, you are wrong on that score, having been in the recruiting battles myself, six weeks is a lifetime. Kids are smart, they read boards like this, they know when a coach is on the hot seat. More importantly, they know when a program is in decline. They want to be at a place that at least has a chance to be a winner and sadly that is not us with this coach.

The real point is that we have been here before w DB. There were many( not me ) touting winning the requisite games to get into some money-losing bowl games. Supposedly the extra practice would make us better, ditto would help recruiting. We saw how well that worked. The point is that essentially nobody who counts cares if we win 6 games in CUSA and make a no-name bowl, As others have said, in terms of winning games it would take several 8-10 win seasons, with an occasional upset of a P5 team to get anyone's attention ( plus ~ $200 million in improvements)

I am confused. I thought Rice isn't paying anything of his salary since his salary is an endowment. How about the persons who are funding the endowment, do they have any input or even care?

Only a small portion of Bloomgren's salary is endowed. Rice is paying almost all of it.

To endow the entire salary, it likely would take seed money of between $35 million and $40 million. Investment experts can correct me if I am way off on those numbers. Anyhow, the endowment money was nowhere near that figure.
