Learned the hard way that drinking alcohol not served by a flight attendant was against FAA rules. Luckily, she just took it and brought it back in a Delta Coffee Cup.

I didn't think it was an FAA rule. United just announced they were going to resume alcoholic drink service on flights longer than 300 miles

Its illegal to bring your own booze on board and drink it. I used to go and get those airplane bottles day before a long trip so I could make my own cocktail.

When I left Dulles on the way to Tokyo I purchased a bottle of Jack Daniels. Once we took off I put on my tray and drank about 80% of it before a flight attendant politely asked me to keep it out of sight.
