However, he has dropped some passes (especially in the Tulsa game). In addition, he is accounted for 40% of the receiving yards for the Tigers. That, to me, is not a good stat. In 2019, Damonte Coxie accounted for 31% of the receiving yards. Anthony Miller accounted for 34% of the receiving yards in 2017.

40% is too high for one receiver. It shows a lack of depth at the receiving core, and Calvin is getting the benefit of that. Unfortunately, and as good as he is, he is not a top 5 receiver to me.

Brady White was a redshirt junior qb in 2019, and in his 2nd year with the program.

Seth is a true freshman qb. He's getting better at checking down to the other receivers, but that will improve as he gains experience. Right now, Calvin is is go-to guy, so Calvin gets most of the throws.

So, you think they should run all the plays in the first game?

Or

Do you think they should not install mew plays for game 7?

Just asking, because I have never heard a question like this - it sounds like you know that have been holding this play for a nefarious reason and that we could have won another game by running it but refused to call that play.

It's just like the "Shovel Pass" play we ran a fair amount last season.
I think maybe we've run it this season to Sean Dykes only a couple of times.

We did last season vs UCF including to Sean Dykes for a 2 point extra point after a Touchdown.

Last season vs. UCF on a fourth-and-three at midfield, Brady White found Tahj Washington on a shovel pass that went to the 5-yard line. Tigers, first and goal, with less than two minutes left. which allowed us to score to go ahead & win the game.

It is set up with a WR or TE going in motion in front of the QB as he's receiving the hiked ball. The QB can either hand off for a sweep, fake the hand off & shovel pass, hand off the ball to the RB for a run, or pass the ball.

If you just ran that play all of the time it wouldn't be as effective. Thus all of the options available to the QB.

Navy ran something similar with a WR except he ran behind the QB & RB on almost every play. A kid sitting behind us asked why Navy was doing that. A couple of us said they were setting up for using him as a End Around Sweep or even a pitch out from the Navy QB. Sure enough they later did but we sniffed it out & stopped it for a loss.

The Shovel passes vs. UCF are in this video

I think we should get our playmakers the ball as often as possible. Not sure about the rest of your comment.

Good question. That’s one of the first trick plays I recall seeing this season. Gotta do that some to keep the defense honest. Sometimes they actually work too.

I’d bring back the shovel pass.

That was one of the things I liked about Norvel, a trick play almost every game it seemed like.

The staff has actually called quite a few unorthodox plays this year. I can recall 3-4 different plays in different games. I don't think "trick plays" are something to complain about.
Now...
trying to stubbornly "establish the run" over and over,
going ice mode too early in the 2nd half,
forgetting about Dykes for stretches during the game
...those are legit complaints for the OC, IMO.

The one complaint I have going back to Ferguson, is that the coaches forget the intermediate pass to the tight ends and wide receivers over the middle. That pass has been available for the last 6 years, including this year. We almost never get it intercepted.

I'm no football expert. I only played at the Pop Warner level.

This year, the unveiling of new wrinkles has seemed very slow and very deliberate even to me.

I have absolutely no doubt that we intentionally didn't show any blitz packages in the first two games. We did some things against Navy we had never show before as well.

I almost think Silverfield has strategically plotted what he plans to add and use through the whole season. That sounds kind of cool at first, but it seems like seasoned coaches would be able to project what would likely be coming next based on the core schemes and what we've done in past years.

Put more clearly, I think he is over coaching it. I hope he is. If not it means this team can't handle anymore than he has given them, and that would be a bad sign indeed.
