It finally happens YAWN
The AAC finally will pick 4 and they will pick 4 that can afford the budget and the other conferences make the small adjustments and the college realignment fiasco of 2021 will finally be over. This is all so easy to predict. Just follow the money.

AAC EAST- Temple, ODU, Charlotte, East Carolina,UAB, USF
AAC WEST- Navy, Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, Rice

CUSA picks Liberty and Georgia State

SUN BELT reloads with James Madison

Not to difficult to figure out because of BUDGETS and MONEY.

No big surprises. Thoughts? I would rather the region idea to work, but AAC will not go for it. Thoughts???

Marshall isn’t staying in C-USA. If an AAC invite doesn’t happen we’re probably going to the Sun Belt with Southern Miss.

Don’t see Georgia State going to C-USA either. C-USA really isn’t in a position to take anyone except Independents and FCS schools.

The Sun Belt isn’t losing anyone, they should just add Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech and stick USM, the 3 Louisiana schools, Texas State and Arkansas State in one division and USA, Troy, GS, GSU, Coastal, and App. State in the other.

The AAC should just go ahead take UAB, Rice, Charlotte, ODU, and Marshall and stick with 13 schools until Memphis finds out if it is getting into the new Big XII. If Memphis leaves stay at 12, if they stay add FAU.

Until the Big XII decides on Memphis, CUSA is WKU, MTSU, FAU, FIU, Liberty, Missouri State, UConn*, UMass*, UTSA, UNT, UTEP and New Mexico State. If/when they Memphis leaves the AAC, CUSA loses FAU and UTSA to the AAC, and they add Eastern Kentucky and Sam Houston from the FCS.

CUSA
East: UConn*, UMass*, Liberty, FIU, EKU, WKU.
West: MTSU, Missouri State, North Texas, Sam Houston, UTEP, NMSU.

AAC:
East: Temple, Marshall, ODU, ECU, Charlotte, USF, FAU
West: UAB, Tulane, Rice, SMU, UTSA, Tulsa, Navy.

Just exactly what does UConn and UMass do for Conference USA? What's that? Nothing? Yeah, that doesn't help your credibility. Do not underestimate what Jim Delaney can manipulate for a large market school with a strong basketball team that's sitting in a lousy basketball conference.

By all accounts, Southern Miss wants out of CUSA and I would be surprised if Sunbelt doesn't extend them an offer (unless AAC pulls a surprise move and invites the Golden Eagles).

Jim Delaney doesn't care about "helping" C-USA. He's getting a paycheck to propose a bad message board idea that fits his overall view of college athletics that the "small schools" should just regionalize, cut costs, and stop trying that way the big boys can get away from you easier.

Georgia State would be pretty stupid to bail for CUSA (but I wouldn't' put it past them for doing something asinine like that).

CUSA taking anyone from the SBC is wishful thinking. The most likely outcome is CUSA will lose between 4 and 6 of the following schools:

Marshall, UAB, USM, ODU, UNCC, WKU, FAU and UTSA

That means CUSA will either stay put at 10 if they only lose 4, or they'll need to add a few FCS teams (maybe Liberty) to get to 10 or 12.

I agree on UAB and Rice to the AAC, but not ODU or Charlotte. I believe Southern Miss and Marshall will leave CUSA, but there's a 50-50 chance it's to the AAC instead of the Belt. That would leave CUSA at 10 members, and I don't think they are attractive enough to pull anybody from the Sunbelt so it could end there.

The question in my mind that would upset all this is whether the AAC would be bold enough to take as many as six teams from the MWC. I think six is the minimum number that could entice schools like Boise and SDSU to reconsider an offer from the AAC. Their best six could match the AAC's per team media value.

Are you suggesting Marshall wouldn't move to the Sun Belt?

I guess they could if they want to lose more money than they have been. Sun Belt schools lose more money every year than any other FBS conference according to the most recent financial reports per school provided by the Knight Commission.

No, I'm referring to Georgia State moving to a much better basketball conference than the Sun Belt. And not lose money each year like they have been.

This also doesn't make sense for UConn. Look at who they're scheduling now. They're not going to join that league for football or anything else.

My guess of the day:

AAC takes Georgia State, Rice, UAB, and Buffalo — result: 12 football, 12 basketball

Sun Belt takes Marshall, Southern Miss, and Old Dominion — result: 12 football, 14 basketball

MWC takes Texas State and UTSA — result: 14 football, 13 basketball

MAC holds firm — result: 11 football, 11 basketball

C-USA takes James Madison and Liberty — result: 10 football, 10 basketball

I would never expect them to leave the Big East, but UConn football by itself is 100% valueless to any conference. And the same applies to UMass. 100% worthless.

well if it's all about budgets, then JMU would be the first call because our budget is bigger than all of the above.

but we know it's not all about budgets. way more complicated than that.

The AAC would take the entire MWC it could. Haven’t you been paying attention? None of those teams want to come. It’s been a project of Aresco’s (and earlier with Meatball and the Big East) for a decade.
They aren’t coming.
