C-USA Power Index
Interesting findings from Athletic Director U. Kind of sad in light of Judy's letter. But, we will see how things play out.

RE: C-USA Power Index
As stated on the other thread regarding this very same "power index" any index that rates unt #2 in football success can be disregarded.

Why is that? Not saying we are the second best in football success, just wondering why you'd choose to disregard the findings of this study.

Also, I didn't see another thread on this topic. Could you provide a link? Thanks.

It’s important to note that this is based off of a potential AD being hired and having success. So football success I would assume is based off if new AD was able to hire their guy for the job.

That makes sense. I think UNT has a great AD, but he has yet to get Littrell winning. If we could just get the right guy in that head coaching job, things could really take off... like our basketball program did.

Charlotte rated very well in this index. I was not surprised. Things are looking up for Clt.

Also the donor support ranking does not make sense. How is FAU 8th in that column if we enjoy the highest amount of donations in the conference?

Maybe it's how the donations are reported. For years I've heard from outsiders about how UNT doesn't have strong donor support. But, we keep getting money dumped into our athletic department and build stuff. I'm not sure where this index got their numbers, but I'm guessing the numbers came directly from within our athletic departments.

The worst take in this is the potential to become a P5 AD. Rice has the best chance out of anyone as they're the only school here that is elite in any category (academics and endowment). No one else currently has a shot without making major shifts in one direction.

This all looks like what ADs “think” they could do at a school. Obviously the people that partook in the survey felt the other schools would have a better chance to grow contributions.

So Tech is near the bottom in donor support despite having top three donor support in the conference. Middle in brand, football, and mbb despite being top 3 4th at worst in all three, and dead last in quality of life? I understand Ruston isn't everyone's cup of tea, but six-seven figures in Ruston and living in Squire Creek definitely affords a much higher quality of life than is represented in this article.

I understand why you shared it Joe as it casts UNT in a very good light, but their metrics are heavily weighted towards metro areas without using actual data points to support their conclusions.

RE: C-USA Power Index
I don't usually care to comment on stuff like this because it's so subjective.

But it's interesting that the same schools rank in the 1 to 3 range on just about every category which suggests a significant amount of bias.

And there is one category that really just illustrates what a joke this is. It's brand perception. UNT, Rice, and Charlotte as the top 3?? I'm sorry but that's just laughable. No offense to my friends in north Texas who you all know I respect greatly. And Rice? I can see Rice up there if the category was prestigious institution academically. And Charlotte that just started playing football? Come on.

This one category alone invalidates taking this thing seriously.

Brand perception is an area where UNT should stack up well. UNT ranks first in the conference in marketing revenue. So, UNT actually earns the most money from our brand licensing.

I gave my best attempt to justify it but you’re right. It’s a bias filled article.

RE: C-USA Power Index
I think most everybody is missing what this is. Athletic Dept administrators that might be in line for CUSA AD jobs--so Associate ADs in our conference, current ADs from smaller conferences, etc--were asked to rate the schools across the listed dimensions based on their perception. Without looking at the chart, an example might have Charlotte listed near the top for alumni donations. That doesn't mean that we are tonning it today, it means they feel like Charlotte has the potential to be tonning it. This is not an objective study. It is subjective, but from what is presumably a reasonably well informed cohort of insiders.

Its like they surveyed 40 people looking for jobs in Dallas or Charlotte.

What's marketing revenue and where did you get that stat from?

Is that the same as rights/licensing?

clt says this is how people who are actually in athletics view our schools, as opposed to chat pagers
