You know far more than I do about all this stuff, but why must USM or the SB wait on the AAC, or on AAC presidents.

USM needs to be seen by boosters as at least trying to get into a league with the AAC schools somehow.

Smart thinking. Thanks.

I think most have come over to the idea of the Sunbelt. Be nice if we could join up and have a period of stability and growth.

Who are you bringing with you?

I wonder if the Sun Belt would consider just going ahead and inviting Southern Miss and make it a formality, like tomorrow, if indeed both sides want each other. A second, or third and fourth, new member could be announced later.

The Sun Belt has reason to be a bit insulted that, with the AAC, SB, and C-USA territories all overlapping the same regions, C-USA only sent a letter to the AAC. The SB could take it as a slap in the face and just go ahead and take one of their own, which really is no different than what C-USA did to the SB with FIVE schools.

It would be petty. And it would be a gamble without a second school completely lined up. But it would also exert strength and tell the CFB world the SB it is to be taken seriously.

Interesting...seems like USM would benefit more than just about any other candidate by being in the SBC.

That’s because USM would get 4 conference mates closer then their current closest conference mate.

Over the AAC, over regionalization, or just over CUSA?

For USM coming into the SBC would be a more regional conference for them.

I’m tired of playing terrible football against you guys, this was my way of stopping that trend. Psychotic football that gives me a headache.....

This is totally accurate from everything I know.

While most fans and boosters are excited about a potential SBC move, there's enough boosters out there who prize the idea of being in a conference with the likes of Tulane, Memphis, and ECU that our admin wants us to appear to be pursuing every option to reunite with that group.

When the AAC finally convinces someone to join -- especially assuming that school is from CUSA -- then we can make the SBC move and appear to all fans and boosters to be acting proactively in our best interest. I think our admin is very sensitive to maintaining unity and excitement among all elements of the fan and donor base during this Will Hall rebuild.

As an aside, last Saturday when our AD was on the field presenting some award or other during a break, I yelled "GET US IN THE SUN BELT, MCCLAIN!!!" and folks in my section cheered. So that's how the USM everyfan feels about the move haha.

I don’t see delay as cold feet for USM. The process just has to play out. The SBC makes too much sense for us, the interest is mutual and most of our fans can see that it is a great fit. The ones that don’t are still wanting Jeff Bower as as coach and are stuck in a past (CUSA 1 and 2) that is long gone.

Honestly, I think the SB will be fine no matter what as long as it doesn't lose schools, whether new ones come in or not. The league is doing pretty well these days.

That said, adding Southern Miss would be a big symbol of strength. Southern Miss has only played at the FBS level, and has done so for a long time. Its history can't be ignored. W's over many schools, including. multiple W's over Alabama. Favre. And so on.

But S. Miss is a charter member of C-USA. Taking that school from a league that, less than a decade ago, stripped this league of almost half its schools would be quite a payback, and would not go unnoticed in college football. I do wish S. Miss was on more of an upswing coming in, but I think the fresh start & the challenge of a tougher league that is also more conducive for rivalries would help the football program a lot.

Oh, and Kidd Brewer is the real Rock. The stadium is built in literal rock on the side of a steep hill. Dynamite had to blast for the field to be built because there is so much rock. Also App is the real Black and Gold.

We have to clean up the ineptitude of a major coaching hire mistake for the second time in a decade. Hopefully by 2023 that will be done, but it is a long slog, because Hopson left a mix of bad talent, no depth and awful culture behind.

That last part- yeah well that’s just your opinion.

Who are you bringing with you?

Honestly don’t know. Us UAB and Marshall seem to have great relationships but I think both of them are eyeing the AAC. From everything I’ve seen I’m for JMU and ODU if UAB and Marshall are out.

By the time we would be coming in we will be on an upswing. I hope beyond hope that we can leave with the CUSA trophy when we do. Would be the best middle finger I could think of. And we have the right coach to do it.

RE: Aresco on timeline
Anybody know why Memphis was left holding the bag? Big 12's excuse was "market and institution" size but I have a hard time believing that based on the size of Memphis compared to some of the other cities on their wish list. I know the Liberty Bowl is an issue and that despite a massive renovation to that whole fair complex it's still going to be a hassle and is off campus, or was it more that there were four openings and five applicants? If it's the former, are they good as gone after the stadium renovations are complete?
