I can’t see where any tiger Fan would be upset with this:

preseason picks mean nothing - in basketball

Houston won the league last year , beating us twice.

Houston made the final four last year, we made the nit .

Of course they are picked 1st

And our coaches can play the disrespect card all week long in practice. This is the best thing for us

Etienne in the only Wichita State game last season played 36 minutes vs. Memphis & had 3 points.

He was sick with a little known disease called Quinonesitest. Symptoms are poor shooting and the inability to dribble. There is no known cure.

Looks like they gave LQ something to get fired up about.

That was my first thought. Extra motivation for Wicked Lester.

Quote:Houston was selected as the conference favorite for the third consecutive year, receiving eight first-place votes and a total of 98 points. Memphis earned the other three first-place votes and 92 total points to be picked second. SMU is third with 77 points, one ahead of defending regular-season champion Wichita State (76). UCF was tabbed fifth with 66 points, followed by Cincinnati (52), Tulsa (43), Temple (37), South Florida (25), Tulane (25) and East Carolina (14).

Fair enough, now let's take it from them.

Houston is proven. Sweet 16 last year and final four this past year. Sampson is the superior coach until proven otherwise. Now that they're in the Big 12, they'll be even getting more top recruits in the future. It is what it is.

Not only the best in the conference, but an elite team in the NCAA.

Houston lost 4/5 top scorers including Grimes. Sasser is back

Yes, 6th men etc can often be really good when they get more minutes and I vaguely remember Mark and White looking like solid players

I don’t follow their transfers or recruiting but am sure some homer will inform us how great they will be

But while Memphis also lost solid scorers in Boogie and DJ as well as some real potential and rebounding in Cisse, it seems like the core returning with Timberlake and the frosh seems like we should have the edge

ok, so 4 players all conference vs. Houston's one? Math not working for me.

It came down to Penny vs. Sampson. Penny will have to prove himself. Sampson is already proven.

Larry Brown doesn't count? I don't see how we have them 4 players to 1, and the AAC coaches think Sampson will make that much difference.

Penny has proven he is an elite defensive coach
Penny has proven he is an abysmal offensive coach
Both of those statements are true.

If you read the CBS coaches stories on what coaches think of what teams will win and what coaches are the best etc - Penny is not listed net Juwann of Michigan is - I believe its because Penny has not shown he can put a team on the floor that can run any type of offense outside of the last end of last season. He changes that and the entire perception changes.

Penny is a good offense away from being a complete Elite coach. He is Elite in: Branding and Marketing, Recruiting (that the lord for NIL - prior to that with those who left and what we had coming in was above average - NIL changed that), Defensively. Offensively as bad as it gets.

Poised for a breakout season if Larry can help on the offensive side of the ball and we avoid any or limited injuries.

Agree with all that. Especially that Larry Brown on the bench should make a difference with the offense, one would hope.

Even without that, looking at our roster vs. Houston's, that's a big ask for Sampson, or any coach, to overcome the difference.

Not that it matters, thank goodness. That's why they play the games.

Conference Record the past 3 years...

11-7 (5th place)
10-8 (5th place)
11-4 (3rd place)

Win more games. Then, talk all you want.

I don't think Penny is a terrible offensive coach...I just don't think he is flexible. He needs a certain type of player.

Once Deandre settled in and got a few games under his belt the offense got much better.

Add in Emoni who also seems capable of getting his own shot and this offense should be very good...Brown or Not.

Houston had one of the highest rated defenses last year and we had good offensive games against them.

I don't get statements like this. You make it sound like the offense only worked for a couple of games. You can easily prove the exact opposite.

We finished 14-3 with our 3 losses by a combined 7 points, while playing Final Four Houston away from home to the buzzer twice in a row. On top of that, Penny managed to make the offense work after Lomax got hurt, by running it without a point guard.

The offense worked very well when Penny installed his offense. The offense always worked when the players bought in and stopped playing selfishly. IF the players continue to buy in and Larry Brown isn't around, our offense would be very good. Now with Brown, maybe it will be amazing.

Someone who lacks the intelligence to complete simple tasks on a computer that a 6 year old can master in a day, is taking Penny to task for not being a great coach right away...and lies his ass off in every single post.

Intolerant and demanding of the highest standards for others, while being useless and having bottom of the barrel personal standards for himself...and a liar every time he posts.

Typical Jethro.

Couldn't install an OFFENSE is EXACTLY what some said last season

That is where you are trolling. And they said he was learning...Gaining experience.

I guess you think Larry Brown knew all he knows about basketball and how to teach the game when he was 30. According to you experience has no value.

But continue to troll.

Remember some on here last year saying PENNY couldn't even install an offense --even though he has been in BB his entire life --and been around great coaches his entire life --they implied PENNY was too dumb to have grasped how to install an offense -though he had been in BB since he could walk

You KNOW THAT'S NOT WHAT I SAID-----I am the PENNY DEFENDER

When others were saying that he didn't have the experience ---that he needed an offense coach---that he couldn't install an offense .

I stated that PENNY HAD BEEN IN BB HIS ENTIRE LIFE-----AND NOBODY KNOWS THE GAME OF BB BETTER
