Kentucky US Rep. John Yarmuth Won't Seek Reelection in 2022
The only Democrat in DC from Kentucky has decided not to seek re-election. The GOP controlled state legislature is working to redraw districts and he apparently knows he won’t win re-election once the district changes.

Yarmuth would know better than me, but I’ve heard that Louisville/JeffCo. will probably *Not* be split up in the redistricting. Not true?

RE: Kentucky US Rep. John Yarmuth Won't Seek Reelection in 2022
It would be fairly hard to gerrymander Louisville into more than 2 districts without making safe Republican seats more competitive. Apparently District 6 (Lexington area) is only +8 Republican, while District 3 (Louisville, minus the easternmost part) is only +8 Democrat.

Due to Jefferson County's population being more than one-sixth of the state's population, it will be in a minimum of two districts.

There might be a path to do so by moving the Owensboro and/or Bowling Green areas into District 1 (R +26) and moving some other counties from District 1 to District 2 (R +22). This would then allow Districts 2, 3, and 4 (R +19) for maximum effect. I'm not sure how much Republicans want to make District 4 competitive, as Thomas Massie has drawn the ire of Democrats far outside his district with his stances on a number of issues.

Louisville TV stations, though, are probably drooling over the county being split up further, as that would likely mean more spending on campaign ads.

The GOP continues to control both branches of the state legislature for the first time in over 100 years. I am hopeful they punish Louisville’s support of a Democrat by splitting the city right down the middle.

This Liberal cesspool needs the steady principled hand of Conservative leadership to fix decades of problems caused by the Lefts failed policies.

The sooner we can remove the evil that is Liberalism from all government the better.

This is rumored to be the plan.

Its only gerrymandering if Conservatives do it. In Kentucky when the Left does something like this “it’s how things are done”.

John Yarmuth has done nothing for his district. He’s spent his time in DC being Pelosi’s lapdog.

For those that don’t know Yarmuth is a millionaire. He knows nothing about being poor or working to take care of a family.

Louisville is already better with him leaving

Actually, it seems like the 1st map shows a higher level of gerrymandering, while the 2nd map looks more reasonable.

How many members of Congress should we like?

I might like more than 5 of them. But that doesn’t mean they really understand current problems of people living on the lower-income end of the scale.

few do and the ones that do forget once they get that sweet donor nector. Doesn't matter how you gerrymander those districts, the people who win those seats would sell your family out in a nanosecond

True — and so is what CJ posted about Yarmuth.

FWIW, I’m against gerrymandering from both sides and if I were somehow appointed as the King of Redistricting, I would keep all of Louisville within 1 district.

You see that is where you might be short sighted just a bit. If you want to see how a politician empathizes with normal everyday folks look no further than the Mayor of Portland. Such a fine example of how well a shining city on a hill by the sea can give everyone a comfortable place to stay. That is if you prefer tents and cardboard. Los Angeles is trying their best to catch up.

Politicians don't give a damn about the poor--or, for that matter, anyone but themselves. They care about getting re-elected and keeping their overpaid and overprivileged sinecures. They will say whatever it takes to get elected, then do whatever it takes to line their pockets.

You overestimate my fondness for congressional politicians by about 5.

There is actually a news report from yesterday when he announced his intention not to run again or this morning where he says, when questioned about redistributing, Yarmuth says something like “they’re the party in power right now” basically acknowledging if his party was in power they would be doing it too.

I tried to find the piece but couldn’t find it to post. I may try again later.

I just thought it was telling how corrupt Kentucky politics is within both parties.

The first map was most likely done by Kentucky Democrats. Until the party took their sharp turn to the Left, after Clinton’s election, Kentucky had a popular Democratic Party. With the National Party’s flirtation with Socialism and Communism, the Democratic Party has fallen out of favor in rural areas of the state.

Look no further than the Bevin vs. Beshear gubernatorial race of 2019. Bevin was seen as the most unpopular governor in the country. He was roundly hated by his own party. Beshear, the son of a former governor, beat Bevin by just over 5K votes or .037%. The closest race in Kentucky history.

Bevin was the only Republican to lose that night. Most, like myself, couldn’t bring themselves to vote for Beshear so we just left the governor’s race blank.

A Democratic will have a tough time winning a state wide election in Kentucky. The RNC does a good job of connecting local Kentucky Democrats to the Omars, AOC’s, Pelosi’s and Schumers of the party.

Generally what plays well on the coasts doesn’t go over well here. And for that I’m extremely grateful.

I believe that map was created to allow Owensboro and Bowling Green to remain within 1 district. But that might be coming to an end.

I think the Republicans found in Georgia its not good to make the margin too narrow. They've lost a lot of seats in Congress and the state legislature.
