I am hoping against all hope that NDSU gets a CUSA invite. Football-only or all sports--I don't really care. Whatever works for the conference. But let us in, please.

Thank you for proving my point. Timing is everything 03-lmfao

Honestly, why should I care though? This is some tangential conversation related to your personal preference for FAU, which is wholly immaterial to FIU. I don’t care about NDSU, they can do whatever they want. I care about doing what’s best for FIU, personal preferences be damned.

Fair enough. But isn't this what we're doing here? Exchanging personal experiences. Do we possess polling data? I don't, I can only surmise (half the time - incorrectly).

I thought we were opining specifically on FIU. I know why you want FIU to keep football, you like the guaranteed W.

Don't you want to do better?

Agreed. I meant it more so in the short term. We’re all in a tough spot here. It’s looking up though. Seems the 5 will hold together (nowhere to go). A few FCS invites or independents and we’ll be fine.

Serious question though. Would you rather have football and be the worst FBS conference, or dump football and with a reallocation of resources be in the A10 or maybe even Big East, the latter has been out of South Florida since 2003.

Coastal and Louisiana were in what was considered the worst conference and were ranked top 25 a good portion of the last two years. Being part of this conference is going to provide somebody with a great opportunity to improve their profile. Schedule right and beat bad P5s (i.e., Kansas, Illinois, Duke, etc.) and you’ll only need to handle teams in a watered down conference to get there.

FIU needs to commit to improving. That’s why we were passed over. The football stadium is embarrassing. I’m not sure why that’s the case. I was a freshman at FIU 16 years ago, in the time since I’ve never seen a period where there’s not at least one new $50+ million building under construction. The money is there. And it’s not facilities alone. We need to improve staff. Pete’s performance is unacceptable. He should have been fired long ago. Butch has to be gone this year. We need to improve student involvement. The attendance is beyond bad. The tailgates are growing and growing each year and the administration has failed to get them in the door. The band...for the love of god, how in the hell can’t we afford to give them legit uniforms.

So to answer your question. We shouldn’t be choosing. We should expect to grow and improve and aim to become competitive in both. But if I had to choose, then drop it all on football. The athletes are there for it. Miami isn’t a fertile recruiting area for basketball.

Because actual resources are limited. We don’t have the resources to be ok at the second level of FBS football and be meaningfully competitive in basketball, it really is one or the other. CCU can easily end up like BSU. Three or four good years than 13 of gradually greater irrelevance.

You might be right. I disagree on the angle - would rather drop basketball. Neither will happen.

Yes, by going dancing in March.

Dropping basketball doesn’t get us there in football, we spend a lot on one relative to our conference mates and nothing on the other.
