Marshall, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee are the only schools in C-USA who make any kind of regional sense for the MAC.

Marshall's may feel like "been there, done that" and that's if they aren't one of the teams swept up by the AAC.

So, I think our only legitimate options there are WKU and MTSU.

Also, the MAC isn't going to add 3 teams. It'll be 2 with the outside possibility being 4, but those four may come from FCS, which brings us back to the conversation we had a couple months ago where it made sense to add those two C-USA schools and then two of a collection of MVC schools like Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Indiana State, Missouri State, SIU, Youngstown State, Western Illinois, and probably not Valpo (and I just learned right now that Valpo changed their mascot to the Beacons this year...and I'm also aware Valpo's stadium is way too small for a move to FBS) or maybe North Dakota State.

No need to add FCS schools to the MAC but if we were gonna choose one none of those schools hold a candlestick to North Dakota State. If we have to expand then WKU and Marshall would be the best adds.

I think that’s a step down for all those teams. Yes even ndsu. Have you seen the fan bases, traditions for ndsu!? If they move up mwc or even aac for them.

Wonder if these changes effect WVU’s scheduled move.

I’d like to keep WVU.

If Marshall, ODU, JMU, and Southern Miss move to the SBC as speculated the SBC would have enough members to sponsor soccer. That impacts the MAC because the two SBC Georgia schools would leave.

WVU was making a move to CUSA soccer with Kentucky and South Carolina but would it want to be affiliated with the Sun Belt? I suppose that UK and South Carolina could make the move to SBC soccer but would they be okay with the SBC logo (figuratively) being attached to their Universities?

If this move happens, the MAC better be on the phone with WVU, Kentucky, and South Carolina about moving their soccer programs to the MAC. Not sure how the auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament would work for a newly formed soccer conference. My guess is that the SBC would have to go through some sort of initiation period where it has to earn that auto-bid.

That would be good for MAC soccer. Lose the two new Georgia schools but get to keep WVU and add Kentucky (at least) and maybe South Carolina as well.

Just FYI: Southern Miss does not have men's soccer. If Marshall, ODU, and JMU were to join the Sun Belt, then the two Georgia schools might want to return to the SBC whose four-team soccer title in 2020 was won by Coastal Carolina with Central Arkansas also in that fold.

History-wise, both Kentucky and Marshall were MAC men's soccer programs from 1997 through 2004. When NIU rejoined the MAC men's soccer picture in 1997, Miami (OH) and Eastern Michigan still had the sport for two more years before dropping it. Schools that have been affiliate members of MAC men's soccer have included IPFW, Hartwick, Florida Atlantic, and SIU-Edwardsville.

Don’t look now but it appears that Marshall is hesitating joining the Sun Belt.

Someone replies to this tweet stating that “no way does Marshall stay in CUSA instead of the SBC with Southern Miss in it” but that guy is missing another option, which could be that talks with the MAC may have progressed.

Perhaps, Marshall is in the mix to be added by the MAC. Pure speculation on my part, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a possibility.

I would welcome Marshall back to the MAC in a heartbeat. C'mon.

RE: AAC & C-USA Merger Discussion
This thread is a little behind the other one. Reports are flying all over the place that Marshall, Southern Mississippi, James Madison and Old Dominion are going to the Sun Belt. Some kind of announcement is speculated to be coming next week. CollegeAD, CBSSports, and various sports columnists/bloggers all reporting it.

So where does that leave the MAC if ... nothing is certain until it is.

Brett McMurphy now tweeting it's "official" Southern Miss to SBC, claims sources confirm (picked up from main board). https://www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf/sout...ttMcMurphy

Not too long ago I would have vehemently opposed it, but if it was actually a possibility I would be more open to it, as long as the 14th member was also an Eastern school. Mostly due to the prospect of having BGSU move to the MAC West.

As it is; however, it looks like the evil in Bristol is pushing them into the SBC and trying to influence W. Kentucky and Middle Tennessee to the MAC.

My preference would be to stay at 12, because 1) fûck espn, 2) no need to split the pie into any smaller pieces (if anything, I would like the MAC to downsize to 8-10 universities), and 3) I would really miss crushing the hopes and dreams of Toledo football year in and year out.

Pretty easy to keep the rivalries, even put BG and UT back together .

West: NIU BSU WMU CMU EMU UT BGU
East: WKU MTSU MU OU KSU UA UB

Going to 9 game conf schedule it would perhaps mean either dropping the FCS /IL directional school of cancelling some home/homes. You will need to be even more selective in your P5 road revenue maker.

I think it would make more sense to put WKU and MTSU in the West and Toledo in the East.

Yeah, they could bunch the Ohio’s, and again gets BG and Toledo together. I think they may want to keep NIU and UT together, and maybe group MTSU and WKU together with OU and MU .
At least they would have something within a 1/2 days drive.
